    The Great wall of china was conceived in the 3rd century bc to ward off northern invaders. Although it was started in the 300 bcs, most of it was built in the 14th to 17th century during the Ming dynasty. Some of it was restored about 50 years ago and still stands today.

    China is one of the largest producers of coal in the world. They use open pit, area type, and contour mining. This coal mining is bad for the enviroment because it releases fumes and pollution from both mining and then the use of that coal.

    The three gorges dam was built from 1994 to 2006 and is the longest dam in the world. It was built to prevent flooding but covers 150,000 acres of land and has kicked many out of their villages. Although it is overall good for the environment, it is bad for the chinese culture and people

    Pollution in China has been a big problem ever since coal and factories started popping up especially in Beijing. One big pollution crisis was when the Olympics in 2008 was almost cancelled due to pollution.

    The Chinese have been farming rice for 4000 years and have developed many strains. They used terraced farming (a way of using different levels to farm on hilly land) to grow on hills. Today China is the largest rice producer and consumes 30 percent of the worlds rice.
