While Taiwan, Hainan and their surrounding islands became the republic of China with the Kuomintang of China ruling. Mao Zedong became the ruler of the people’s republic of China on the same day.

On the square there where a million people including mostly students but also workers intelctuals and civil servants.

Before this it was very hard for people in China to use google.com, Google images worked half the time and Google news never worked. Google was no very happy about launching google.cn because the Chinese authorities made Google limit the information available on google.cn
