  • The Hundred Flowers Movement

As things get out of hand, Moa responds with a trap.He starts cruel "Anti-ightest Campaign". About half a million rebiliions were sent to the country-side or "reform through labor". Most of them were philosophers. This shows that Mao didnt want these thinkers to think of a change of living. He wanted to stay in power. People that could think of another way to live were imprisoned.
  • The "Great Leap Forward" (1958-1959)

Mao wanted to modernize China. He wantd more and more labor from the people of China. He even maximized the amount of sleep people should get. As he focused on the production of metal materials, it resulted in a huge agriculture failure. The result was shortages and famine (to millions). By 1961, the starvation eases. China imports grain from Canada & Australia. This was kind of a warning for Mao that he shouldn't concentrate on just one thing.

This started the "New" China. Mao wanted to get rid of the "Four Olds": Old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits. But soon things get out of control. During that time, education had shut down.Chaos was everywhere. Around 1 million people were killed, and 35 million mistreated.
