  • Steam Engine

  • Spinning Jenny

    The spinning jenny was built in 1764. It made raw cotton into thread. This invention was used to mass produce textiles. It was built by James Hargreaves.
  • The Industrial Revolution comes to America

    Sam Slatter was an English textile worker who smuggled designs of machines to America. He wanted to industrialize America.
  • Cotton Gin

    When the cotton gin was invented it accelerated the expansion of slavery in the south. The demand for cotton went up and southern farmers need an efficient machine to clean the cotton quickly.
    The cotton gin was invented in 1793 by Eli Whitney.
  • Erie Canel

    The erie canel is the first and most successful artificial waterway. It was designed to connect the western markets to the eastern markets. It took four years to build, 1821-1825.
