  • Samuel Slater's First Textile Mill in the US

    In 1793 Samuel Slater's sons opened the first mil in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. By 1835, they had owned all of part of 13 textile mills.
  • Eli Whitney Demonstrates Interchangeable Parts to Congress

    In 1798 Eli Whitney attempted to address some of teh technology problems. Interchangeable parts are parts of a machine that are identical. Using this made machines easier to put together and broken parts easier to replace.

    Transportation Revolution was a period of rapid growth in the speed and convenience of travel because of new methods of transportation.
  • Clermont Sails

    Clermont was the first full sized commerical steamboat ferry in teh United States. It first set sail going against the Hudson River. It traveled without trouble.
  • Gibbons Verses Ogden in Supreme Court

    This court case made it to the supreme court in 1824. Their case was that the federal government's authority to regulate trade between the states by tending monopolitstic control over waterways in several states.
  • Invention of the Mechanical Reaper

    In 1831 Cyrus McCormick invented the mechanical reaper.This invention quickly and efficientily cut down wheat.

    Nat Turner's Rebellion was the most violent slave outbreak. While they were fighting around 60 white slave owners wer killed.
  • First News Ever Wired by Telegraph

    Samuel F.B. Morse invented the telegraph in 1832. The telegraph is a long-distance communication tool that makes it become almost instantaneous.
  • Federal Workers Get 10-Hour Work Days

    In 1840 President Martin VanBuren lowered the work days to only 10 hours. This was the first time an American president allowed the limitation of work hours.
  • J.R. Anderson Opens Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, VA

    In 1848 JR Anderson became the official owner of Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, Virginia-which is one of the most producitve iron works in the nation.
  • Politician J.H. Hammond Declares "Cotton is King!"

    This saying was from a quote a politician's speech said when cotton became one of the main staple crops.
