    Battle of Hastings

    The battle of hastings was between William and Harold. The Normas fought the Anglo-Saxon with an arrow piercing and killing Harold. Thus allowing William to claim England for his personal property. In the end he kept 1/5 of England giving the rest to 200 Norman nobles who pledged their allegiance to him. Lastly, all Anglo-Saxon nobles lost all power and became the lowest of the low in society.

    Henry II Marries Eleanor

    Henry II married Elenaor wich further added land to the vast empire which was the goal all along.

    Common law was established and used during this time, Common law was when Henry sent out Royal judges to govern every part of his kingdom. This group of judges and the of judging became known as common law.

    This document guaranteed certain rights such as such as safe guarding their own fuedal rights while limiting that of the kings. Also, no taxation without representation, trial by jury, and protection by the law.

    Model Parliament Formed

    Edward the I called upon two knights from every county and two burgesses from every borough to meet in a legeslative body. He created this body partial to help run the government but also to help fund his war against the welsh. Nevertheless, over time they became the group known as model parliment.

    Burgesses and Knights

    During this century the king called upon the burgesses and the knights whenever taxation was needed. Over tiem these groups in parliament gradually came to form two houses. The house of commons and the house of lords. Over the years they were used to check the kings power.
