    The National Women Suffrage Association was established in this year. Women were fighting for their right to vote. They united with another group, the NAWSA, in 1890. This was an important event because it was the start of feminism and women's rights.

    The transconitenental linked the Atalntic and Pacific coasts of the United States. It changed the US by bringing about new land. It also employed thousands of immigrants, as well as industries.People and goods now couls travel across the US faster than ever

  • Ellis Island (Chap 7)

    Ellis Island was the chief immigration station in the eastern US from 1892 to 1924, where about 17 million immigrants came through. Imigration caused diffusion in the United States as well as more work and jobs. It also led to many anti-immigrant protests, the Chinese Exclusion Act, and the Gentlemen's Agreement.
  • Plessy v. Ferguson (Chap 8)

    Segregation was a big problem in the US and this case was one of the first cases brought by African Americans to protect their rights. This case was important, because while it did still seperate races, the races now had equal protection.
  • U.S.S. Maine (Chap 10)

    The U.S.S. Maine was sent out by President McKinley, to Cuba to bring home American citizens that were in danger, and to protect American property. The ship blew up on Feb. 15, 1898. American newspapers claimed that the Spanish blew up the ship.This event then led to the Spanish-American War.

    The United States planned to saty out of the war, but after threats from Germany, America officially decided to join WWII. This was a turning point in America, because the US joined a World War, that affected their economy, and country as a whole.

  • The Scopes Trial (Chap 13)

    This trial debated teaching evolution, other sciences, and other aspects of religion into public schools. This was a a turning point in America, because it dealt with religion in schools.
  • Airplane Industry (Chap 12)

    In 1927 the American Airways was founded, and inaugerated the first transatalntic passenger flights. It was a turning point in America because it allowed more travel and diffusion. People could now travel around the world quicker, and more efficiently than ever before.

    This year contained the stock marrket crash which sinaled the beginning of the Great Depression. This was a changing point in America because it caused the decline of many jobs, banks to close and lower income for many Americans.

  • New Deal (Chap 15)

    The New Deal contained policies that focused on three goals. Relief for the needy, economic recovery, and financial reform. The New Deal expanded the fiederal government's role in the nation's economy, and Congress passed more than 15 major pieces of New Deal registration.
  • Holocaust (Chap 16)

    Around this time, Hitler ordered all "non-Aryans" to be removed from government jobs. This first event, led to his drive for racial purity, which eventually led to the Holocaust. The Holocaust is a mjor event because it's one of the greatest tradegies every to occur on Earth, with more than 11 million people killed across Europe.

    After the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan, America decided it was time to participate in the war. This was an important event because the US got involved in one of the biggest wars in history. The economy and industry also was affected in America. Many factories stopped making items such as automobiles, and turned to the production of war weapons and supplies.

  • United Nations (Chap 18)

    On April 25, 1945, representatives from 50 nations met in San Francisco to establish this peacekeeping group. This was an important event, because it was a group that was made to promote peace. But it soon became a competition between te US and the Soviet Union to spread their influence over others
  • Baby Boom (Chap 19)

    The baby boom was a very important event in American History. The rapid number of births between the 1940s and 60s caused the economy and social life in America to change drastically. Because of the increase of babies born between this time, toy sales were affected, more schools were built, and things were chnaged in general in the US with the increase in population.

  • New Left (Chap 22)

    People involved in the youth movement of protestors against the war were referred to the New Left. One of the better known New Left Organizations was SDS. The youth movement and protestors across college campuses, impacted the Us in many ways. It set the status for the Free Speech Movement, and divided America between doves and hawks.

  • Great Society (Chap 20)

    The Great Society was established by President LBJ. His main goal was to end poverty and racial injustice. The money for this "Great Society" was put towards education, housing acts in cities, and the environment.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Chap 21)

    This act was a very important act in American History. It ended discrimination in housing. Segregated schools ended, and the number of African Americans finishing high school and going to college, increased.

    Neil Armstrong becomes the first person to walk the moon. This was a turning point in America because the US made history by sending the first man to the moon. It helped gain scientific technological adavances and information for the future.

    The National Organization for Woman was created in in 1966 to pursue women;s goals. the ERA made sure women and men were eual under the law. This was a turning point in America for women, from being a housewife to being more free to get jobs etc.
