Casandra's Life Map: The Down Times

  • GRADUATION

    GRADUATION
In 2007 I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Television.
  • WELCOME BACK

    WELCOME BACK
A few months after college graduation, I left Chicago behind to move back to my hometown in Belleville, Illinois to be closer to family but was unable to find work in my field.
  • AMERCORPS SERVICE

    AMERCORPS SERVICE
In 2008 I volunteered to serve a year as an Americorps member to work with the youth struggling in school and living in poverty. That year I learned a lot about the power of community and the impact that is made when a community works together. I tutored over 100 students a week in subjects ranging from math, science and english. Tutoring was a highley challenging experience yet rewarding but that didn't come to much later when one of my students that was failing class tells me he got a B.
  • FALL

    FALL
With only a few weeks left to complete my Americorps service year, I was injured while bike riding with my teenage son down a small hill when I was thrust from off the bike and thrown into the air and literally landing on my wrist when I broke it. After wrist surgery I had to go through a year long recovery process of physical therapy to regain flexibility in my wrist and the movements in my fingers again and the ability to drive again.
  • Unemployment

    Unemployment
Unable to find a decent job due to bleak job market and high unemployment rate. I eventually took a position doing the same type of office work I felt I had out grown but part of the job is virtual and this part I like.
  • FEMINISM

    FEMINISM
Stacey Dash on Gender Inequality In Pay | The Meredith Vieira Show
I strarted to research opportunities online because I did not
want my degree to go to waste. Subsequently, I began to read alot about the gender gap in America and other issues like 'equal pay for women' that were being discussed everywhere I went and in the media. Around this time I began to look deeper at my own value and what I could bring to the marketplace.
  • Entrepreuneurship

    Entrepreuneurship
In December 2014, I founded a global online business helping solopreneurs launch and or manage a podcast and or Youtube show to spread their message to a wider audience. I learned that very few people do what I do and that there was a need in the marketplace for my expertise and skillsets. The day I announced my services I picked up clients right away. This helped me to realize the down times helped to prepare me to fill a niche and to develop a entrepreuneul mindset about my career.
