    In 450 AD tribes called thr Anglo-Saxons invaded the British Isles. They came from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands. It was the origin of England , the English people and the Old English language. In the 9th century, Vikings came from Scandinavia.

    In 1066 England was invaded by the Normans led by Duke William of Normandy. After the Battle of Hastings he became king and was known as William the Conqueror; English monarchy was born.

    The Tudors, reigned from 1485 to 1603. The most famous Tudor king is Henry VIII's daughter, was the last monarch of the Tudor dynasty; a political genius. When she died England was one of the most powerful and prosperous countries in the world. William Shakespeare lived and worked in this period.
