    My baby sister was born today. She has Down Syndrome and the doctors say she won't grow to be 5. My mother is a Special Ed. teacher and knows that medicine is advancing in the USA. There is hope!
  • Moved to my aunt's house in Chicago with mom and little sister.

    Moved to my aunt's house in Chicago with mom and little sister.
    My sister is in need of an urgent heart surgery. She got her surgery and we stayed for around a year for her recovery. We traveled by bus and I was at the silent period observing everybody talking on the bus. Suddenly I was babbling something that was not even close to Spanish. My aunt thought this was really funny!

    Began Kindergarten at the Mitchell School. I was enrolled in the Bilingual Program. My teacher was Miss Klein who didn't speak Spanish yet taught me to read in English and Spanish.

    Everybody is happy that my sister is going to be ok and I finished my school year. That means we can go back to PR! But I'm going to miss my aunt very much! But not to worry I will be visiting my aunt every summer for summer school just to make sure I don't forget English and that way we don't have to miss each other that much.

    It seemed I was forgetting or not building enough English vocabulary with only the summers at Chicago. So I was going back to my aunt for a year but this time without my mom or sister. : ( Still we will make the best of it and my mom will be coming to visit soon!

    I began to study at the UPR. I was placed on Advanced English because of my scores on the College Board. Still to my surprise I'm not getting A's in English. My professor suggested I enrolled on a conversational and syntax course to fix some improper style I had when communicating in English. Yeah! I know exactly what you mean. I ain't that much of a writer.

    We moved to Miami Beach looking for better jobs and opportunities. I was working as a secretary in Caparra, Puerto Rico when I left and guess what I'm working as a secretary in Miami Beach. Not much of a difference in pay only that now I speak English more and I got the job because I was bilingual. This really didn't work out I went back to PR a year later.

    I was studying get a certificate in Secretarial for the Tourism Industry and working late night shifts as a medical secretary in Rio Piedras when Continental offered me a job as an International Flight Attendant. I had to move to Houston, Texas. This experience really helped better both my English and Spanish language skills. I had to work on my pronunciation, vocabulary and translating skills.

    I was supposed to travel to Newark today. My family called from PR asking if I was alright. I don't have to be at the airport yet. Please don't go to the airport today. Turn on the TV! I was able to see the second airplane hit the tower as it was transmitted live on TV.

    This week I'm flying out of Newark. AA flight 587 took off the runway right before my flight. Moments later we were told to return to the airport. 587 had just crashed. I was a nervous wreck and my family was terrified. I decided to go back to Puerto Rico.

    I needed a job and there was an opening at the Jose Mercado Bilingual School. I was accepted and my teaching career began. I fell in love with teaching in English. I decided to study to become a teacher. I've had the chance to use English a lot, study and improve my language skills in English through this experience.

    I began a certification program at the Sagrado Corazon University to be certified as a bilingual teacher.
