    Summer job
I got a summer job, given that I assumed I'd attend university and would like more independence. Something small just to start saving up. This also gave me some essential skills like problem-solving, multi-tasking, and people skills.
  • applying for scholarships and bursaries

    applying for scholarships and bursaries
Even though I had summer jobs and some part-time jobs I knew it wouldn't be enough. So I applied for scholarships and bursaries. Given that I was an honour roll student and had high levels of community involvement being accepted for the bursaries wasn't a problem.
  • applying for university

    applying for university
I handed in my applications to my schools of choice, even Though application deadlines for every school was different they were all in around the same time. One of the top competing schools for me was the University of Toronto.

    graduating high school
Finished high school with all, and extra, credits and community hours that I needed. I graduated on the honour roll. This I knew would happen because my average graduating from the ninth grade was above 80%. I, at the time, also already completed over half of my hours, and was set to gain another forty hours in the coming month.
  • Attending university

    Attending university
Once I got accepted into the University of Toronto I started attending. Taking classes in, psychology, English, biology, and others. I was living off-campus due to it being cheaper.
  • 5 year summary

    5 year summary
After I completed high school, received bursaries/scholarships, was accepted into university, attended my first year of university, kept a steady part-time job I was at my five-year point from where I started. Since then I had become more self-aware, independent, responsible, educated, confident, and reliable. However, all of those did come with their downsides. This was because I did become more stressed, tired, and occupied. However, I did reach out to those I trusted for help and advice.
  • 5 year summary cont.

I changed who I was as a person, successfully passed a fundamental part of life (high school), transitioned to university, moved into young adulthood, and continuing on my with my career path. But during these years I struggled. As may did. Yet I knew to go get help if I needed it. The transition to university was a struggle but I turned to my guidance councillors and others who I knew could help. I never let myself struggle in the dark.

  • 10 year summary cont.

I took many Opportunities in my teen years to understand who I was. Doing assessments, surveys, and even courses allowed me to understand who I was and was capable of for my future career. During high school, I tried something I've had never done before, took the risk knowing I would struggle immensely, and tried my very best. While attending an online course on careers it broke down what I need to know for my future. It broke down my resiliency, resources, and more so I knew what was needed.
  • Finishing law school

    Finishing law school
After completed and received my Juris Doctor Degree, three years of law school, then passed my bar exam. That meant I was ready to start my career.
  • 10 year summary

    10 year summary
Continuing on from the five-year summary I had transitioned into adulthood. I had successfully passed all levels of education I needed, received two degrees, kept more than one part-time job, and learned/refined many more skills. These skills include Better time management due to a job and school balancing, responsibility due to me having to take care of myself, Problem-solving due to not relying on others, and Better communication due to more social interactions I had.
  • After law school

    After law school
After law school, I went straight for a clerkship. Even though I could have continued for my LLM, JM, MCL, etc. I don't think I had the funds for it or the mental stability either. That is why at the time heading for a clerkship, to gain more knowledge, was the most beneficial. Taking that clerkship I got to work alongside judicial and understand the law system more.
  • moving on to a law firm

moving on to a law firm
After working in a clerkship I moved on to a law firm. Not a large one so I could still get work, but enough people so I could still gain help if I needed it. I started working on my first small cases. I never bit off more than I could chew.
  • 15 year summary

    15 year summary
My biggest transition yet. even though I've moved on to post-secondary and clerkship being independent and truly in the field was stressful. Knowing all the mistakes I made couldn't be backed up with the fact that I'm fresh out of school. My personal life also was being balanced adding more stress. I was faced with challenges such as being underestimated, not knowing what to do, not getting work, and much more. I started small and took on each challenge the best I could and grew from it.
  • Period: to

    working on up

I worked in a law firm learning, work, growing. taking on bigger and more challenging cases, taking chances, and overall bettering my skills. That was all aimed to make myself as best as I could to open a private firm

    20 year summary
I still work in a law firm. I have yet to reach the level of expertise and experience in the field for me to open a private firm. However, I will be there soon in the coming years. There is a possibility if I took other academic pathways, meaning staying in school to earn more degrees, I could've been at that level of knowledge I would want but it was just not happening. I could've also went for a different career path; Instead of a cooperate lawyer I could've gone for an in-house

Councilmember or worked for the government. Those just didn't strick my interest enough as what I do now. From where I started to what I do know I've learned, grew, and know so much more. I wouldn't have changed a thing that I did, because who knows where I would have ended up.
