Kalona returns from the Otherworld after failing to finish his task from Neferet. Neferet is mad because she know Zoey will mess up her plot to start a war between humans and vampires. -

Neferet send Kalona to be deeply lashed 100 times (because in the prevous book he killed a human boy) and to be send away from her for one century, but will take to his side after his wound are healed she know that the lashes will hurt him but the the wound will not last very long since imortals heal rather quickly. but makes him do his punishment to gain trust and trick the high counical. -
