    linkBy 1945, there were two Chinese governments. The Nationalist government of Chiang Kai-shek, based in southern and central China, was supported by the United States. The Communist government, under the leadership of Mao Zedong, had its base in North China.

In the beginning, many states in southeast Asia admired western political and economical practices. They Hoped to form Democratic, capitalists states like those in the west. However by the late 1950s Internal disputes within the new countries weakened democratic governments ,opening the door to both military and on party autocratic rulers.

    linkVideoOn June 25,1950 Joseph Stalin gave north korea approval to invade south korea. President Harry Truman sent US troops to repel the invaders. In 1950, the UN sent troops to march across the 38th parallel with the aim of unifying korea. China was alarmed and sent hundreds of thousands of troops into north korea and pushed UN forces back. There were 3 more years of fighting that produced no victory and an armistice was signed in 1953.

    linkThere was a local communist party lead by Ho Chi Mihn, the Vietminh, an alliance of forces under communist leadership, seized power throughout most of Vietnam. France however refused to accept the new government and seized the southern part of the country. America opposed any further spread of communism, and began to provide aid to South Vietnam. Inspite of this aid Communists querrillas known as the Viet Cong, were on the verge of seizing control of the entire country by the early 1965.
