I was born in Beijing, China. My family where rice farmers. Rice farming was very hard work and we hardly made money. Sometimes we would work all day just to make enough money to pay for one meal. Then when I got a littel older i got married and had four children. me and my wife wanted to get out of poverty. So we talked about moving to Amereica -
Angel island
I bought tickets to go to america with my whole family. I hope we could make a better life for ourselves. When we got to Angel island we had to get a medical exam I passed my medical exam. The rest of my family faild there exams because of an illness. So we decided that i would go to San Francisco and look for work. My family stayed at Angel island tell there illness the had got better. It was hard to leave them on angel island. -
Getting a job
When I got to San Francisco there was a man from the rail road hiring chinese immagrants that just got to america. He offered me a job helping building the rail road. I accepted the job because I was despareate for work and money. So the next day i had to take a train to where they were working on the railroad. The work was very hard and didn't pay that good. The money i made I had to send back to my family who just got of angel island. My family is renting a tiny apartment in San Fransicisco. -
Family living bad condition's
My family living in an apartment in San Francisco.The had realy bad living conditions. I was not with my family much. Because i as following the railroad around. The money I made working on the rail road was hardly enough to buy food for my children at every meal. The first couple months I didn't have enough money to pay rent. But the land owner let us go. -
Family is murdered
My family was walking down the street when a gang decided to attak them. The killled all my whole family. when I asked about what the law had done to the murderer's. They said that they where aloud to walk free. Because they murdered chinese people. I hardly had enough money to pay for there coffins. The rail road comnpany would not let me have of to go to there funerals. -
working on the rail road
I followed the rail road aroud working on the rail road. The work was dangerous. Lot's of the workers died. The food they feed us was almost always spoiled. They worked us 12 hours per day. My two frends I made in a explosion while they wher trying to blast through rock. Also I was hurt when i dropped a huge rock on my foot.
