It was a battle between the Anglo-Saxon's king Harold Godwinson against his brother Tosting, the Norwegian king Harald III, and the Norman-French army of William the Duke of Normandy. Harold managed to win against Tosting and Harald III, but was defeated by William, "The Conqueror", who after that invaded and conquered Great Britain.

Fishing, fighting and hunting were their means of survival and their literature generally reflected this activities. They also celebrated big occasions and after-war parties in their Mead Halls, which was a really important place in their society.

The Anglo-Saxon tribes were pagan, but thanks to St.Augustine Christianity was again re-established in Britain. This greatly favoured culture, literature and education in the Kingdoms.
