    A man named Muhammad 'Ali led a group that made the Turko-Egyptian Rule of Sudan. Under the rule, many Sudanese people had big problems, like having to pay high tax and leaving SouthSudan. (ppt)

    Sudan starts becoming under british control in 1899. Britain has upgraded Sudan but completely ignored South Sudan that it is not upgraded. Sudan owe it’s modern cities to Britain. It was independent from britain in the year 1955.

  • Nimeiri become president in North Sudan

    G.M. Nimeiri wins the election on May 9, 1969 in North Sudan and made the official name from Democratic Republic of Sudan to Sudanese Socialist Union. Nimeiri won 4 elections: 1969, 1971, 1977, and 1983. In 1985 he was replaced. (ppt)

    Oil is first discovered in Sudan.
    People started thinking and exploring for oil in 1959, but then it was first discovered successfully in 1974. The Chevron company discovered the oil 120 km southeast of Port Sudan.     The Sudanese Civil War started in April 1983. It was like the continuing of the 1st Civil war. It started in South Sudan because of how the North treated the South unfairly and it spread to other places. It ended in January 2005. The war took 22 years.

  • Omar al-Bashir is President

    In 30 June Omar al-Bashir became President after he led a military group that fired the regular Prime Minister Sadiq Al-Mahdi. He became president in 1989. He has made a 2nd Civil war in sudan that lasted for 22 years and killed 400,000 people. (source)

    Sudan has ended its civil wars and finally become independent from Sudan on July 9th, 2011. Its name is now oficially Republic of South Sudan.
