  • Experience through immigration

    Experience through immigration
I had faced alot of discrimination against what culture i was. From different ports we had stopped at there were different men and women that would get on and off the boat. Most of the people on the boat i couldn't understand because they speak a different language.
  • Difficulties

    Difficulties
When i had gotten off the boat; i knew the first thing i was going to have to do was get a job. With atleast five cents I could get a half of loaf of bread. For my child and I that could be a full meal. When your raising a child it can be challenging to get work and have a roof over head.
  • The Act

    The Act
The Foraker Act was established a civilian goverment in Puerto Rico. Jospeh Benson was an Ohio statesmen. He was the first civil govener of the island under the Foraker Act. He changed the federal goverment laws againtst the employment that effected the Puerto Ricans alot.
  • Cultures

    Cultures
After working night and day, you come across serveraly different kind of people. There are Irish,Chinese,Mexican, and many more others. My time in the diners and those hotels as a maid; you get a taste of what different types of cultures can be like.
  • Reasons for West

    Reasons for West
There was an article in the local newspaper that i noticed about free land in the West. For many nights i kept thinking that maybe it would be nice for my son and i to move there because the amount of crops we could grow out there. My son and i could finally be able to have good nights with one another than me leaving him to only see him for two minutes the next morning
  • Moving West experience

    Moving West experience
There was an increase on urbanization on the land from when my son and i started to when we traveled to New York. The amount of employment lines were probably the majority of immigrants that had traveled West. I still remember the night some of us would stay away just so we can get a job in the new land.
  • Moving West Experience

    Moving West Experience
The difference of employment for women that in Puerto Rico, had suprised me the most. When i was in Puerto Rico , mainly women collected food and other things for their families. When i came here women work in factories, in the feilds, and ocassionaly in pubs where there are alot of rough housing.
  • Moving West Experience

    Moving West Experience
The main difference that i really learned was the variety of ways to grow different crops. For a while before we had our land, my son and i had lived with a family that he and i learned all the different ways to grow crops. We had lived with them for a month that was but after that my son and i had made a nice feild by our land.
  • The end of moving

    The end of moving
My son and I both had built a house on and made a buetiful long feild of open area for crops. I had finally made it for my son and i to both of us to have a brighter future. It might have been long but i got lucky and escaped from poverty to having our own land with crops and a roof over head.
