    The Great Wall of China is started
    221 B.C- 206 B.C
    The Great wall of China wast built during the Qin Dynasty by Qin Shi Huangdi. After uniting seven different states in China, the emperor connected and extended four old walls along the northern boarder of China. Armies were stationed along the wall as a first line of defense against the invading nomads.

    The Chinese invented the compass

    The Chinese invented the compass
    221 B.C- 206 B.C
    The Chinese used lodestones, a mineral composed of an iron oxide which aligns itself in a north-south direction. Eventually someone noticed that the lodestones were better at pointing out real directions, leading to the first compasses. They designed the compass on a slab which had markings for the constellations. The pointing needle was a lodestone spoon-shaped device, with a handle that would always point south.

    Qin Shi Huangdi Unites States

    After a long and dreadful time period of fighting one man managed to unite all of them to create the Qin Dynasty. This man is Qin Shi Huangdi. After uniting the states he became the first emperor. Through the years he ruled he managed to do many great things such as starting the construction of the Great Wall of China.

    Shang Dynasty Develops
    1700 B.C- 1100 B.C
    This kingdom won control over the large Huang River delta. One of it's earliest capitals was called Shang. In the capital there were emperors. The emperors would keep records of major events that occured. Unfortunatley the Shang Dynasty fell because of an evil king. He killed his son and tortured and murdered his ministers.

    Silk is made from the cocoon of the silkworm moth. Chinese legends say that the first silk thread was made when the Chinese Empress Si-Ling-Chi was sitting under a mulberry tree, when a silkworm coccon fell into her tea. As the cocoon she then developed the use of silk.

    In ancient times umbrellas were made with bamboo and oil paper because oil repels water. They were first invented to protect people from the sun. These were called parasols. They were used in ancient Assyria, Greece, and Egypt as well. The chinese were the first to water proof the umbrellas.
