As a child my parents showed me videos to stimulate my brain. They chose Baby Einstein because it was an effective show that taught kids. The videos taught me things like sound, numbers, and colors. I enjoyed watching this show and it was shown to me everyday.

In my early years of life family was the most important because they taught me my language abilities, body control, emotional control, rules of public conduct, and moral values. A value that they taught me at a young age was that of music. My dad and all his brother's played an instrument when they were in high school. Everyone in my family values music and believes it is important.

Peers are an important part of a childs socialization. My cousins were my first peers from birth to toddler. This was the first time I had interacted with someone who was my equal. Interacting with these peers taught me how to interact with people different from me since even though we were in the same family, our direct families raised us differently.

River Ridge was my first school experience. This is the first time I couldn't be emotionally dependent on my parents. Going to this school taught me to be emotionally dependent on myself because I was no longer with my parents all day everyday.

As a toddler to school age child I first started acquiring my self image, learned masculine and feminine behavior, learned to think and speak, and acquired my self-esteem from my family. Playing cards with my Great-Grandma and family taught me to think and analyze the game we were playing. It also helped build my self-esteem when I won or did well.

Peers continued to be one of the most important agents of socialization as a toddler to school age child. This is when I learned to interact with people different from me more than just my cousins. I also learned how to make my own decisions. I had a class of around twenty kids from various backgrounds which taught me to interact with each of them as an equal. I had to get along with these people when we worked in groups or even just as recess which helped me later when I was around more people.

Hidden curriculum's value of obedience really came into play in elementary school when I had to obey my teacher or be punished. Loyalty and allegiance beyond the family was another piece of socialization that I learned, I learned loyalty in school while working on projects with other students. I had to be loyal to them first and get my work done in order to have a quality project. Self reliance is another thing I learned because I had to figure out problems for myself when working on a project.

In elementary school is when I began internalizing norms, beliefs, and values. I also got a stronger self image, learned to better think and speak, and learned ethnocentrism and racism. My parents main value they tried to have me interanlize was to be a hard worker. My dad would always have me come work on projects with him in order to instill this value in me. Also working on projects made me think at a deeper level.

In elementary school the numer of peers I had increased greatly. I got to interact with social equals away from adult influrnce and really began to make some of my own decisions. When I played sports with my peers I really learned leadership, dominance, cooperation, and compromise when we were playing together on the football field or in practice. These skills were increased as I went on in life.

Man vs Food is currently my favorite show and was so in middle school. It displays a role model for me that is dedicated to what he does and experienced in the field that he is in. I can imitate his dedication to what he does in my every day life.

In middle school is when values are really reinforced. The value of timeliness is reinforced because you have to get to classes on time or else you are punished. Another value that is reinforced is success. This is shown when kids are rewarded for being on high or low honor roll. Lastly, a third value that is reinforced is fitness since we take health and physical education to learn how to stay healthy. All these values that are reinforced in middle school help me later in life.

In middle school was when I really began grasping my families norms and beliefs. One of my familis major values is religion. My sister's First Communion was an important part of me understanding this value. When I had my First Communion I didn't understand it, but when I was old enough to understand it I really grasped the value. I also internalized the norm of celebrating religious achievements and going to church every weekend in middle school.

    Peers Middle School
Peers may be the most important agent of socialization in middle school. In middle school you really make your own decisions with peers since you are acting with them as equals without being controlled by adults. When on the cross country team I learned to interact with others that were different from me even more. Since I had hung out with basketball players mainly before these people came from different backgrounds. Also not everyone was at the same skill level which made them different also.
