    Ansars met at Saqifa Bani Sauda to discuss who would be the successor to the Holy Prophet. The successor was to be chosen out of the people that attended the meeting. Abu Bakr, Umar, and some other Quraish leaders attended the meeting. Ali believed he should be the 1st Caliph, but did not get the job.

    Abu Bakr was sick with a fever and never recovered. He died in Medina and he was 61 when he died. He was later buried next to Muhammad. Abu Bakr's last words were recited from the Qu'ran and they were,
