    Many people publically supported the Balfour Declaration. This declaration stated, by the British goverment, that Jewish people had the right to build a homeland in Palestine.
  • United Nations partition plan

    United Nations partition plan
    Palestine was divided into a Jewish state and an Arab state. The Arabs didn't accept Israel as a neighboring state and declared war to destroy israel.
  • PLO is created

    PLO is created
    The goal of the PLO(Palestine liberation organization) was to reclaim Palestine and to destroy Israel. Palestine committed terror acts and lashed out at the United States while Israel struck at the bases; this started a war that lasted several months.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    For 19 years Arab hatred toward Israel was strong. Then Israel made a sneak attack that was powerful and brutal.
  • Munich Olympics

    Munich Olympics
    Eleven Israeli athletes were killed by Palestinian gunmen. According to the memebers of the Black September, it was Yassir Arafat's organization that secretly authorized the operation.
  • Yom Kippur War

    Yom Kippur War
    Egyptian and Syrian forces attempted to get back the land they lost from Israel. Even though the attack had succeded, Israel fought back three weeks later and gained even more land.
  • Camp David Accords

    Camp David Accords
    An agreement between Israel and Egypt. It was a "land for peace" deal; Israel gave the Sinal Peninsula in exchange for Egypt's abadoning to the Gaza Strip and being the first Arab goverment to recongize the state of Israel.
  • 1st Intifada

    1st Intifada
    The Palestinians grew frustrated by the Israeli military rule. They had strikes and attacked soldiers and civilians which only made Israel respond forcefully.
  • Oslo accords

    Oslo accords
    Israel and the PLO agreed to recognize each other and have peace. After the Oslo accords went into effect, Yassir Arafat was head of Palestinian authority which made Palestinians hope for their own independent state.
