  • Executive Order 9066

    President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, which order the evacuation of anyone who seemed as if they were a threat to national security. Many Japanese Americans found themselves incarcerated due to America's fear that they might be Japanese spies (YAWP, Chapter 24, World War II).
  • The Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway was a significant naval-battle, fought mostly with aircraft, during WWII. The United States' Navy claimed victory over the Japanese. The Battle of Midway was one of the most significant naval battles in the Pacific area throughout the duration of WWII (YAWP, Chapter 24, World War II).
  • D-Day

    D-Day is known to hold the largest invasion force in history. The operation brought allied land, air, and sea forces together to flood the beachheads of Normandy, France (YAWP, Chapter 24, World War II).
  • The First Atomic Bomb

    Hiroshima, the first atomic bomb, was a nuclear weapon America dropped on Japan due to the want to speed up that war in hopes of coming to an end (YAWP, Chapter 24, World War II).
  • Japan Surrenders from WWII

    On August 15, 1945, Emperor Hirohito announced the surrender of Japan from WWII. The two main factors of the surrender of Japan was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (YAWP, Chapter 24, World War II).
  • The First Levittown

    In 1947, William Levitt constructed the first Levittown. Levittown was the first mass-produced suburb that consisted of homes to house veteran returning from the war (YAWP, Chapter 26, The Affluent Society).
  • The Start of the Cold War

    Following the end of the Second World War, tension between two of the greatest world powers rose. The alliance between Great Britain and the U.S. on one side, and the Soviet Union on the other, began to fall apart (YAWP, Chapter 25, The Cold War).
  • The CIA was Formed

    Following World War II, President Truman felt the need for post-war intelligence organization. Truman signed the National Security Act in 1947, and the Central Intelligence Agency was established (Wright, 1197-1198, 2001).
