  • UBC Imagine Day

    1. My first day to UBC and I had a very nice MUG leader.
    2. It's my first time to ask myself: What is leadership about? How can I get involved in UBC?
    3. And I heard VP Student's Emerging Leader Program.
  • First E-mail from ELP

I got my e-mail from Emerging Leader Program today. I wasn't quite sure what is ELP and what can I get after "graduate", but I do want to work with elite people, people who have dreams, so that to improve myself. And here is the chance.
  • First Meeting of IPP Halloween Party Planning Committee

I was SOOOO excited about it. This was the first volunteer position I got in UBC and I was the only new member in IPP(International Peer Program) who had the chance to take part in the planning of this great party because I asked the student manager:" Can I volunteer in IPP? " Cheers!
  • Meeting for International House 50th Anniversary

Before we had Halloween party, I got this e-mail from International House asking me if I want to volunteer for IHouse 50th Anniversary and I said sure. We had our first meeting today. And Regina, who was in charge of this whole event, wanted something very special. She talked about the great idea of Photo Collage which I thought was very interesting, so I said I want to do this job. But, I was the only person who said this. However, this time I need to learn how to handle a project by myself.
  • Global Thrill / IPP Halloween Party day!

Global Thrill / IPP Halloween Party day!
After half month's work, we were ready for the Party! That night was full of fun, and this was my first time to be in a party. It turns out to be pretty good since we worked very hard and tried to give the best Halloween party to International Students. This was also my first time working with a team in UBC. I learned a lot of things. And everyone around me was so kind to me, they are patient will never put me questions aside. I won't get so involved without their encouragement. Thanks!
  • Went to Speech Given by James Orbinski

Went to Speech Given by James Orbinski
I would miss this great speech if I didn't join ELP. Dr. Orbinski talked a lot about his experience in Doctors Without Broader which includes the things they do, the potential danger they need to overcome. He challeged us by asking the question: In what way you think you can change the world? This was the first time I started to taking this question seriously. Is there anything I can do to make the world better?
  • Putting up the Photo Collage - till midnight

After two week's research, I got all the materials I need for Photo Collage. There was only one day left to the celebration and we need to finish all the decorations by today. Putting up the photos is the last thing for my project. I had been working by myself for the pass two weeks, but this time was different, I got three people with me including the program manager and they are great! We worked till 11:30 ish and it was fun!
  • Joined International Week Marketing Team

I applied for Core Leader but ended up of being a subcommittee member which is still very nice. I was proud of being a part of International Week, but this "faliure" made start to ask myself : Am I ready for all the positions I was applying for? How can I improve? Anyway, I was still very excited when they accepted me, cause I knew that this year, International Week gonna be very different!
  • Volunteer at Model United Nation

    Volunteer at Model United Nation
I volunteered in MUN as a page and I need to wear shirt and tie like everyone else. This was my first time to be in a formal event like this. It's amazing to see students were all dressing up and talking about the political issues. When I met all these delegate and listened carefully to their debt, I could feel their passion on all these global issues. If we can really get in to UN, this might be the most powerful and effective way to change the world.
  • Attend Student Leadership Conference

Arash arranged shifts for us so that I could go to SLC. I need to say that I learned a lot from the speech given by Tom who was employed by Apple Inc. at the age of 14. He talked about how he got into Apple and why he decided to quit Apple to start a NGO. What he was trying to say is: if you are fond of something, stick to it.
I cannot agree more with this idea because to me, persistence is the most important trait of being a successful person.
  • Learning Exchange for Lovely Kids

I spent 2 days with those kids and they are great, but I was so sick on the third day so that I could not make it... I really like those kids. They are so cute and they are so eager to learn new things and to explore the world. I also learned that, we can really make impacts on the world that we are living by helping people around us.
  • Senior Peer in International Peer Program!

As an International Student, IPP is very important for me. It's like a combination of international and leadership experiences. So I was excited when I knew that I'm going to be a senior peer next term. It's like back to where I started but in a new position with new people. I cannot wait to meet my peers next term! Yeah!
  • The end of International Week

After months of planning and marketing, Internatioanl Week was successful and had come to an end. In this 3 months, I learned how to deal with stress when several things coming up together and how to work in a much bigger team. Although I was still in a volunteer position, but this time was much more serious. I got to know a lot of things including restriction when planning a campus wide event, and It's good to work with a lot of passionate people!
  • UBC Orientation Training

I still cannot believe that my first academic year has come to an end. It's fun but everythings is so fast. In this year, I learned a lot from different people, gained great experiences from the programs and voluntary works that I have been involved. I was so happy that I was accepted by UBC Orientation Team which allows us to share our experiences and our passion with students who is new to UBC. And that's where my UBC experiences begins. Next story? It's in a new chapter!
