    Cartier lands in Newfoundland

    Jaques Cartiers First Voyage across the atlantic lead him to present day Newfoundland. First hoping to find an alternate route to the oritent, and now interested in North American land, Cartier continued west. Later, he discovered the St. Laurence River and came in contact with First Nations peoples.
  • Champlain establishes Port Royal

    Located in Nova scotia, Port Royal was the first French- European esablishment in Canada. Champlain used this settlement as a base while he explored the Atlantic coast.

    The French wished to establish a larger settlement on the shores of the St. Laurence. The location was in the middle of fur trading action.

    Filles Du Roi were french women sent to both even out the ratio of sexes, and to populate New France

    Jean Talon, intendant of New France

    Jean Talon promoted diversity in New Frances development. Forestry, fishing and breweries were all part of his attempts to strengthen the colony without relying on France. He was also the mad behind the "filles du roi"

    Hudsons Bay company gains control of Rupertland, which means they have power over trading with First Nations.
  • Expulsion of the Acadians

    The Aciadians were the first people the british forced out before the Seven Years war. Originally from the maritime provinces, the acadians were deported to Europe.

    Seven Years War

    The Seven Years' war was the first global war. It was a battle for commodities and new land. North America became center stage for the battles, after the events at the Ohio Valley. The British used agressive methods to eliminate the french from North America, and to lessen resistance from the first nations, in order to claim the fur trade and the nation as britains own. It resulted in British vicotry, and New France was lost.

    British conquest of Quebec

    The Conquest of Quebec meant the french lost their city. The Battle of the Plains of Abraham resulted in a british win, and french soldiers were ordered by their general to abandon Quebec and Beauport.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Marked the ending of the Seven Years War. The treaty retunred most of the land in topic to its originall owners, but more was given to the british.

  • Vikings land in L'Anse aux Meadows

    The first Eurpeans ever to set foot in North America were the Vikings. They established a settlement in L'anse aux Meadows New Foundland but didn't stay long. North America didn't have what the Vikings were looking for.
