A large group of girls all went out into the forest, which is a dark and creepy place for the puritans, conjuring spirits and dancing naked around a cauldron. When they were nearly shaken by Reverend Parris who had caught them in the act. -

The next day after they were caught dancing, Betty never woke up and they couldn't find a cure. Doctor Griggs searched numerous times through his books and could not find any medicine to cure Betty. Many people suspected that this was because of witchery, but they were not certain. -
