  • Youtube was Founded

    There are 3 founders of youtube, Jawed Karim, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. In February 2005

  • Transforming Youtube

    The cofounders decided to transform youtube into a free video-hosting platform. In April 2005.

  • First Video Uploaded

    The first video uploaded to Youtube was called "Me at the Zoo". It was 18 seconds long. In April 2005.

  • Beta Version

    Youtube launced it's beta version to the public. In May 2005

  • 1 Million Views

    Youtube's first video to hit 1 million views was called "Golden Boots", it was about a Brazilian soccer player receiving his pair of boots. In October 2005

  • Officially Launched

    Youtube finally launched out of beta and was available to the public. In December 2005.

  • Remove that Video

    Saturday Night Live's sketch made it to youtube "Lazy Sunday", and it received million of views. NBC had youtube take down the video. In February 2006.

  • Youtube and Google

    Google acquires youtube for $1.65 billion, and the cofounders each get $400 million. Later on the headquaters move to San Bruno, California. In October 2006.

  • Youtube's First Ads

    Google gave out it's first ads on Youtube videos. In August 2007.

  • Partner Program

    Youtube's partner program is for selected creators, allowing them to earn money from their content. In December 2007

  • Justin Bieber's "Baby"

    Usher introduces Justin to the work through a youtube video. He released his music video for "Baby" later on. In April 2009.

  • One of the Biggest Creators

    Felix Kjellberg joins youtube under his channel Pewdiepie. He is a video gamer. He has over 100 million subscribers. In April 2010

  • CEO steps down

    Chad Hurley steps down and google apoints Salar Kamanger to fill his place. In October 2010

  • Viral Video

    "Gangnam Style" became the first video to reach 1 billion views on youtube. In December 2012

  • 1 billion users

    Youtube reaches 1 billion monthly users. In March 2013

  • Children's Videos

    Google launches a family friendly version of the platform called Youtube Kids. In February 2015.

  • Youtube Red (Premium)

    Youtube unviels Youtube Red, it gives subscribers videos and music without ads and access to exclusive content. 3 years later it is now called Youtube Premium. In October 2015.

  • Opens Fires

    A women opens fire on youtube headquaters in San Bruno. 3 injured and killed herself. In April 2018

  • 14 years ago

    It's been 14 years since youtube was founded. In february 2020.
