Hitler wanted the Sudetenland territory but mainly to unite all the German people under one nation.Hitler threatened war if the Sudetenland wasn't annexed. Island hopping is a term coined for how it was used as a battle strategy in WWll. The purpose of this strategy was to successfully secure Japanese occupied islands in the pacific. The military attacked one island and used it as a base to attack other islands. They did this over and over and proved succesful.

On December 7th 1941 Japan bombed Pearl harbor which was located on the Oahu island. The purpose of the attack from the Japanese perspective was to destroy America's pacific fleet to cripple America's Navy. It was a successful attack from the Japanese.This is the event that got America onboard the war.

The Philippines were taken by the Japanese shortly after Pearl Harbor.The combined American-Filipino military force surrendered in the Bataan peninsula in April 1942 and in Corregidor in May.In October 1944 Douglas returned with allied forces and Japan surrendered on September 2nd,1945.

Japanese camps were created under the executive order 9066. This was enacted in reaction of the Pearl Harbor Bombing. The logic of such an act was to prevent espionage and spies. This act is considered to be one of the most worst violations of civil rights at the time.

Japan hoped to gain control of midway to make a base and stage attacks from there. The Japanese attacked damaged the us base but U.S. carriers were towards the east and ready to fight. The battle was one of the fiercest in the pacific and was an Allied victory. The battle of Midway ended on June 7th, 1942.

The Guadalcanal campaign is a series of land and sea battles around and on the Guadalcanal island. Japans's intention with taking the Guadalcanal was to create a buffer that would defend their mainland in case of an allied Invasion. After many battles and a Japanese final stand we were victorious. Japan withdrew in Feb. 1943.

Stalingrad is a very proud moment in their history when they successfully defended the city of Stalingrad from German attack. This is the point when the German advance into the Soviet Union stopped and the Russians started pushing the Germans out. Stalingrad lasted months and ended on February 2nd,1943.

D-Day was a meticulously planned out invasion of German occupied France. Normandy was chosen as the site of invasion because of it's element of surprise and somewhat short distance for air cover.In the initial phases of the invasion its was disorganized .The allies successfully took Normandy and D-day ended in June 30th 1994.

The Yalta Conference was a meeting of the leaders of the 3 allies. FDR,Churchill,and Stalin met to discuss post war terms of the defeated German. At the conference they also discussed the war in the pacific as the gave support to America in fighting the Japanese. The conference ended on February 11th, 1945.

After 4 years of fighting the soviets launched the invasion of Berlin. About 95,000 Germans had to defend two full armed and ready Soviet armies from the east and south. In a few short days 1.5 million soviet troops had encircled Berlin waiting. Berlin officially surrendered on May 2nd but the fighting stopped on may 8th.

When the Soviets were closing in on Berlin Hitler retreated to a bunker in the middle of the city where he lived out his last days. On April 30th Hitler shot himself and died. Hitlers ashes were scattered so he would never find peace.

The purpose of the conference was to determine Germany's fate. Although this time FDR was replaced by Truman and Winston Churchill was replaced by Clement Attlee. The big three worked out many details and in the end divide Germany up in 4 sectors. The Potsdam conference ended in August 2nd 1945.

Los Alamos was a laboratory created in 1943.The sole purpose of this lab was to create an atomic bomb. It was succesful and delivered the first atomic bomb on July 16th,1945.The test proved to be succesful and is known as the birth place of the atomic bomb.

Hiroshima was a manufacturing center where about 350,000 people lived and was selected as the first target for the bombing. The bomb was about 9,000 pounds and was loaded on a modified B-29 bomber. The bomb was dropped at 8:15 in the morning and destroyed 5 square miles of the city.
