    Most of the people living in the Sudetenland were German as it had been part of Germany before WW1. Germany wanted to reunited the German people that had been split up by the Treaty of Versailles that ended WW1. Great Britain and France met with Italy and Germany where they came up with an ultimatum where Czechoslovakia ceceded the land.

    Pearl Harbor

    Japan bombed Pearl Harbor to destroy the U.S. pacific fleet. It was as surprise attack by the Japanese Air and Naval forces. Nobody was prepared for an attack and as a result over 2,400 people died. The next day Pres. FDR asked Congress to declare war on Japan. After that the U.S. officially entered WW2. Article

    Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway was the turning the point of the Pacific front of WW2. Japan failed to gain air and naval superiority over the U.S., they hoped to gain the same success as Pearl Harbor but it ultimately failed. As a result Japan stopped its plan to expand its empire farther into the Pacific. It would be in the defensive position the rest of the war.

    The USSR forces stopped the German advance into Russia. They were trying to cut off their transport lines and add a northern flank for the German forces. It was unsuccessful and was part of turning the tide in favor of the Allies in WW2.

    Guadalcanal is one of the Southern Solomon Islands. This was a battle on the Pacific front of the war between Japanese and Allied forces. Along with the Battle of Midway it was a turning point in favor of the Allies. It pushed the Japanese forces back towards the island of Japan to end the war.

    D-Day

    It was code-named Operation Overlord Allied forces invaded on the beaches of Normandy, France. About 156,000 Allied troops had successfully stormed the beaches. The invasion helped change the tides of the was and eventually allowed the Allies to push German forces back and liberate the entirety of France. This eventually lead to the end of the war on the European Front.

    The Philippines

    The Battle of the Philippines was between Japan and the United States on the Pacific front of the war. It was a complete U.S. victory as the Japanese pilots trained as little as 3 months compared to U.S. pilots completing at least 2 years of training. U.S. losses totaled 130 aircraft and damage to ships while the Japanese lost around 300 aircraft.

    The Japanese Internment Camps were established because of the Executive Order 9066 which incarcerated Japanese Americans into these camps. The order after the bombing of Pearl Harbor as people were terrified that there could be spies. Anyone of Japanese decent were forcibly ripped from their homes and lives and sent to these camps.

    After the bombing of Pearl Harbor Island Hopping was used to push the Japanese forces back towards the island of Japan. Island Hopping is where they captured Pacific Islands one by one setting up a base to start there next attack from to capture another island. With this strategy they stopped the Japanese from spreading east and taking over more countries.

    Hitler committed suicide in his bunker in Berlin after it became clear Berlin would fall and Hitler would be forced to surrender to Soviet forces. Eight days after his suicide, German forces ordered an unconditional surrender. Afterwards Germany was divided by the Allied Powers.

    The Fall of Berlin was considered the end of the war in Europe. Soviet Forces attacked from the east. By the time Soviets forces had taken over the city over 300,000 people of Berlin and 80,000 Red Army soldiers died on May 2, 1945. The surrender terms were signed 6 days later, on the 8th.

    The Potsdam Conference occurred after the end of the war in Europe where it defined a post WW2 power balance. Pres. Truman, Prime Minister Churchill, and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Germany's fate was decided and how the aftermath would play out. It also put pressure on Japan to exit the war as it was still going on in the Pacific.

    Hiroshima

    Hiroshima was the first Japanese city to be atomically bombed by the U.S. killing approximately 80,000 people immediately. Thousands of people would die later from exposure to radiation. Three days later another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing an additional 40,000 people immediately.

    Los Alamos, New Mexico was where the first atomic bomb was tested for the Manhattan project. When testing the bomb and even dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki the scientists were unsure if they would actually work. Los Alamos was chosen as to be away from civilazation and to have as much privacy as possibl testing these weapons.
