WW1 experience

  • My position in the war

    My position in the war
Today I joined the German army. The mother land must be protected. Enemies all around are attempting to surround us, but we will continue to fight. I've been placed into the fray as a infantry member. Right on the front line I fought the enemy... in those dreaded trenches.
  • Good bye my friend

    Good bye my friend
Today I lost my best friend. We enlisted together and planned to leave this war together. I could not save him from the artillery barrage. The bombshell struck without warning. We could not foresee the strike because it made no noise and by then it was too late to save him.
  • There is no peace out here

There is no peace out here
I've been in this war a little over 124 days. I can not explain the terror I feel. I fear for my life. All around me the bombs rain death on my comrades. We've begun using mustard gas, but the reactions of the enemy soldiers hurts my conscience. They wail and whine, I cannot sleep at night when I think on it. I hope this ends swiftly.
  • My daily ordeal

    My daily ordeal
I've spent a long while out here now. I was hoping to go home early, but it seems like the end is afar off. Down in these trenches we wait while our feet rot away. Many of us have gotten what they call trench foot. It's an awfully nasty condition that makes it uncomfortable. There isn't much to pass the time with except maybe some cigarettes. Even worse is the rats. If you leave your food unattended your likely to have it eaten. When I get home it will be all better.
  • Trench Foot

    Trench Foot
After spending days on end in this accursed trench I've developed what the other soldiers call trench foot. It make it hard to walk and is quite unbearable. However, I cannot go home yet, I will have to keep fighting on the wars front.
  • Morale is dying out

    Morale is dying out
Morale in the war is at it's lowest. Most people would've rather had it end years ago.The only thing that keeps my spirits up now-a-days is a good smoke or the thought of going home. The sooner we end this the sooner we go home, right? right? eh I just don't know anymore.
  • The War described in six words

The War described in six words
Death all around, but silence nowhere.
  • The war continues

    The war continues
I've been waiting since the first week of the war for it to end. I was not meant for this and I hope it will conclude soon. Germany is facing heavy losses. We have been surrounded by our enemies and are now facing the threat of the United States of America. America joined in April last year, maybe this will be the event to end the war.
  • The Wars End!

    The Wars End!
It is time to go home. I've been freed of this torture. While I'm discouraged for Germany's loss I'm glad to be home. I've lost my best friend, been infected with trench foot, and have been constantly afraid to die for the last 4 years. I am relieved to leave.
