He was a Catholic monk who was very devoted to God. He started to have issues with the current Catholic church in their terms of receiving salvation. He wrote 95 thesis that had what he found wrong with the Catholic church. These 95 thesis got him excommunicated from the church. He then started his own church called Lutheranism. It quickly spread throughout Germany and Scandinavia. Lutheranism was the first protestant religion.
