  • Impressment of Sailors 1793-1812

    Impressment of Sailors 1793-1812
    As Great Britain had much control over the seas, they would often seize and search the United States ships that would have cargo, exports, and imports. They would take these items and even take the sailors that they wanted. This raised tensions because this cost the United States a lot of money. Jefferson made a policy that orders GB to stay away. As a result, GB began to just take and impress more sailors and accused them of false accusations.
  • Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality.

    Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality.
    When conflict broke out between Great Britain and France, Washington declares that the United States is neutral in this affair and is not taking sides. This way the United State should be involved. As an effect, it would raise tensions between all the countries, which would be a key factor in the war beginning.
  • Jay Treaty

    Jay Treaty
    Since France and GB were at war, tensions were high, and Great Britain was instigating, by having ships sail near America, and seizing them. So the Jay Treaty was signed to open British harbors and made GB stay away from the western area of America. The treaty would hurt America economically as it gave Great Britain the upper hand

    In this address, Washington warns the United States to not get involved in too many foreign dramas or alliances. He also warns us about the power of political parties and how they will divide us if we let them. As an effect, Washington would warn us about future war, and he would leave a resting impact on the world as we now know that we should not be making total and permanent alliances, resulting in the Jay Treaty and ect
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    Chesapeake-Leopard Affair
    This was another key factor at the beginning of the war. As mentioned before the British would steal and seize America's ships. In this incident a British man fired at American ships and killed 3 American soldiers, and then the British officers would take 4 soldiers and steal them, only one was truly British. As an effect, this angered America and made the United States even more upset with British troops, soldiers, and government.
  • Embargo Act

    Embargo Act
    This was an act passed by Congress that disallowed any trading from foreign commerce, this raised tensions between all foreign countries from the United States because they could no longer trade between the countries. This hurt the United States a lot economically. This also upset a lot of people, farmers could not export their goods. To enforce this a lot of police and armed forces would have to enforce it a lot.

    War Hawks 1810-1812
    A term for someone who advocates for war and was very opinionated on winning a war and starting one. When election time came, almost half of the representatives were replaced with republican or federalist war hawks, this would lead to more influence and more instigating to declare war on Great Britain.

    Tecumseh a Native American chief sought to have a discussion to ask for the Americans to stop expanding Westward into Native American lands. However Harrison despised the Native Americans and when he heard the word of this he burned down their town, Tippencone. When the Americans refused and harmed the Native Americans they would go and sign with the British.

    Tecumseh was the first Native American person to Ally with the British in the war of 1812. He did this to protect his people, The Native Americans, and to help preserve their land from being taken from the Westward expansion. Tecumseh helped build a large army for the British.

    War began because after so many conflicts Americans wanted free trade and peace with America's soldiers, as they were being taken by the British. The war would last from 1812-1815. Even though the United States was not prepared for the war, they still won!

    A series of meet-ups by group(s) of federalist delegates that came to have secret meetings that discussed the discontent with James Madison’s policies and solutions to all of the United States' problems. Federalist delegates from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire. They claimed the war had ruined America’s economy and that the federalists were becoming disloyal toward James Madison.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Treaty of Ghent
    Ended the war, between Great Britain and The United States, Britain gave access to the NorthWest areas and territory. This is significant because it would end the war between the two countries and both countries would seek to stop the slave trade. Signed in December 1814, but the war itself did not stop until 1815 because they were unaware that a treaty had been signed.

    The last major battle/engagement between the United States and Great Britain, the battle itself was not necessary as a treaty and had already been signed, and even though the Americans were outnumbered, they still pushed through and won the battle
