    Impressment of sailors

    Over this time period, the British would impress more than 15,000 U.S sailors. This would ultimately lead to the U.S declaring war on the British.
  • Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality

    In Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality, President George Washington would state the nation's neutrality between France and Great Britain. He would even mention that anyone who provides help for either nation would be threatened with a court case.
  • Jay Treaty

    The Jay Treaty was made due to British forts being held in the northwest territory of the U.S and British ships were harassing American ships. The treaty would have the British leave the forts, stop harassing the ships, pay the damages caused to the American ships, allow the U.S to trade with India, and carry on restricted trade with the British West Indies. The only failure the Jay Treaty had was not being able to gain compensation for the taken slaves during the Revolution.
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    In Washington’s Farewell Address, President George Washington would preach and beg for the nation's unity against parties and division in the United States. He would even state that the U.S has to avoid foreign affairs and alliances.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    The Chesapeake-Leopard Affair was a conflict between the British fourth-rate HMS Leopard and the American frigate USS Chesapeake. The British would attack and get on the American ship. This would later lead to Jefferson responding with the Embargo Act of 1807
  • Embargo Act 1807

    The Embargo Act of 1807 would be signed under President Thomas Jefferson. This embargo would stop any foreign trade to help the U.S stay out of foreign affairs specifically between France and Great Britian.
  • Tecumseh formed an Indian Confederation

    Tecumseh would create the Indian Confederation to stop and resist white settlement in the Northwest.
  • Tecumseh Joined Great Britain

    With the coming war between American and Britain Techumseh got his follower together and joined Great Britain. He would contribute by capturing Detroit and killing 2,500 American soldiers.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    The U.S would vote to go to war against Great Britain because of the harassment of American ships. This would be voted in Congress. In the House, it was 79-49 and in the Senate 19-13.
  • War Hawks

    The War Hawks were a group of young republicans who would pressure Congress into voting for war. These younger members had grown up from tales about the heroism of the American revolution and want to live it with this war.

    Hartford Convention

    The Hartford Convention was secret meetings between federalists from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. In these meetings, Federalists would call for the repealing of the Three-Fifths compromise, requiring two-thirds of the vote for creating states and declaring war, limiting the president to one term, and forbidding successive presidents to come from the same state.

    Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent would be signed and end the war of 1812. The British were persuaded to sign it because they realized that the war would be costly and difficult. This would not take effect until February of 1815

    Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans was a large victory for the Americans. Under the lead of General Andrew Jackson, the U.S would defeat a large British force. This victory would boost the countries morale.
