    American and First Nations forces engage in a hard fought battle just outside of Michigan. The Americans are victorious and defeat the native allies of the British.
  • Battle of York

    The American forces invaded Ontario earlier in the year and moved to attack York (modern day Toronto). These attackers were successful and defeated a small British force defending the city.
  • The Burning of Washington

    Alongside Canadian militia British soldiers and sailors landed just outside the American capital of Washington in August and were able to take the city. Before returning to their ships they set fire to many government buildings including the modern American White House. This famously caused the repainting of the building white in order to cover the black scorch marks,
  • Peace Treaty Signed (Treaty of Ghent)

    America and Britain sign a peace treaty on this date agreeing to the cessation of hostilities in all theatres of war.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Since news of the peace treaty was slow getting back to the British and Americans on the frontlines some soldiers were still fighting against one another into 1815 even after a peace agreement had been reached. One such example is General (and future president) Andrew Jacksons engagement at New Orleans on this date which resulted in an American victory.
