    Impressment of Sailors

    The impressment of sailors would be done by the British and not the French. The British would seize American ships while they were trying to trade and would keep the ship. The British would then take the American sailors in that ship and force them to join the British Navy so essentially they were kidnapping American people. This would go on for a while from 1793 to 1812.
  • Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality

    President Washington would see that many people would want the United States to help France in its revolution. Thing is though is that George Washington knew that the nation including its military were still weak. Seeing this he would proclaim that the United States is "friendly and impartial toward the belligerent powers." This would prevent the weak United States from entering any battles that may further weaken it.
  • Jay Treaty

    The Jay Treaty was a treaty that was made by John Jay when he was sent to London by George Washington who was the president at the time. John Jay was sent in order to come with an agreement with Britain. The Americans wanted Britain to stop occupying the forts that are in North America and to stop seizing their ships. The British would stop occupying the forts and pay for damages between 1793 and 1794 but did not stop seizing ships further on. The Treaty did nothing essentially.
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    President Washington's Farewell Address was a message for the entire nation. Washington would warn the people of the United States about the dangers of political parties and how they can split the nation up instead of uniting it. Another thing Washington would warn about would be foreign entanglements. Washington would say that the U.S. should mind its own business and not get involved with the business of other nations in order to prevent the nation from entering any wars.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    The Chesapeake-Leopard Affair was a naval battle between a British ship and an American ship. The battle would take place off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia. The British ship called the Leopard would fire upon the American ship called the Chesapeake. The shot would have killed 3 American sailors. The sailors of the Leopard would board the Chesapeake and impress American Sailors. The whole reason why the Leopard fired is because the captain of the Chesapeake refused an inspection.
  • Embargo Act of 1807

    The Embargo Act was passed by President Thomas Jefferson as a response to both Great Britain and France seizing their ships as they were attempting to trade. The act would state that the United States would not trade with France or Great Britain if they continued to seize American Ships. This act would be useless because it didn't affect France or Great Britain. Instead it affected the United States more due to no trade happening.
  • Tecumseh / Battle of Tippecanoe

    Before the Battle of Tippecanoe began Tecumseh would be away recruiting Indians to fight for their cause which was to resist the American way of life. While Tecumseh was away recruiting people the Governor of Indiana, William Henry Harrison, would march his army towards Prophetstown intending to destroy it. Tecumseh's brother would attack Harrison’s army even with the advice of Tecumseh of waiting until their army got stronger. The battle resulted in a American Victory.
  • War Hawks

    The War Hawks were young congressmen who would pressure President Madison to declare war against Great Britain. These congressmen were from southern and western states. These War Hawks wanted the United States to start the war and do absolutely anything to win against the British due to all of the things the British did towards America leading up to this point.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    The War of 1812 would be a conflict between the United States and Britain due to Britain sending Indians to harass the Americans. The British would also seize and impress American sailors. Throughout time this would anger Americans which would result in the United States declaring war on Britain.
  • Tecumseh 2 / Battle of The Thames

    The Battle of The Thames started because the British were retreating in order to get away from American forces. Tecumseh believed that the British were betraying him because they didn't stay and fight. The Americans would catch up to the British and Indians and start fighting. The British would flee while the Indians fought. Thats where Tecumseh died which would result the end of his confederacy. Indians would cut ties with the British due to them thinking that they betrayed them.

    Hartford Convention

    The Hartford Convention were a series of meetings between Federalists delegates in order to talk about James Madison's policy's and progression of the war. These Federalists were claiming that the war was ruining the economy. In order to fix this they proposed constitutional amendments which would protect their interests. Some were even wanting to secede from the Union. This convention would be held in secret.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent was a treaty between the United States and Great Britain. This Treaty would end the war between the United States and Great Britain. Some of the conditions of this treaty would be that all the conquered land Great Britain took shall be returned to the U.S. It would also set the boundary for the United States and Canada. It took approximately 2 months for knowledge about the treaty get to British troops in the states. The fighting would continue due to this.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans would begin with the British charging towards New Orleans. The British intended in taking over New Orleans so that they could split Louisiana apart from the rest of the United States. A pirate would warn Americans about the incoming British force headed towards New Orleans. The one who was there to combat the British would be General Andrew Jackson. The battle resulted in American victory and would be the last battle between America and Britain.
