    Impressment of Sailors

    When the US had exported goods to Britain they sailed over the Ocean just to be met with the military. In which they forcefully took men between the ages of 18 and 55 years old and put them into the British military.
  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    The Proclamation of Neutrality was written by George Washington had declared the US neutral in terms of which side it was on during the war between Great Britain and France. This had made both nations angry with the US and had led to both seizing ships from the US and also other issues eventually leading up to the War of 1812.
  • The Jay Treaty

    The Jay Treaty
    The British had been seizing US exported ships and taking their goods. While British exports had been welcomed to the US. John Jay had been trying to create some sort of agreement with the British on this issue and he settled on a treaty which stopped war and created neutrality.
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    George Washington had written his farewell address in his last year of being in office. This document had contained Washington's concern for political parties, foreign policies, and the way that the US had dealt with the gaining and sharing of land. Washington believed that political parties were no good and split us apart and the same in regard to foreign policy.

    The Chesapeake Leopard Affair was an engagement between the US and Great British ships off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia. This had showed just how bad the ties with Britain had been and had ultimately led to the War of 1812
  • The Embargo Act

    The Embargo Act was passed in 1807 in response to the British and the French seizing ships after the Proclamation of 1807. This embargo had stopped trade completely with any foreign nation. This ended up being very bad for the US but barely affected France and Britain because they had others they could trade with while the US did not.
  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    Battle of Tippecanoe
    This battle was directly between Tecumseh's Native American tribe and army versus the American Forces. This had started when Tecumseh did not sign a treaty which had not allowed the Americans to occupy the land they had purchased which provoked a battle. The battle had been one of the influential factors of starting the War of 1812. This happened when Tecumseh lost the Battle of Tippecanoe and had called for back up from the British to help fight for their land back.
  • The War Hawks

    The War Hawks were a group of young politicians who were also members of congress who convinced James Madison to declare war in 1812 against the British. They wanted war because they wanted to expand their territory this was because they were mainly Southerners and/or Westerners who wanted more land for slaves, crops, etc.
  • The War of 1812 Begins

    The war was caused by many issues but the major ones were: the impressment of sailors and the expansion westward of the American people. The British and other nations such as Spain had not been happy that the US had just been given so much land and that they can go around their taxes when trading so they decided to go to war with the major one being Britain.

    Battle of the Thames
    The British were outnumbered ~1500 to ~3500 Americans. Under general Tecumseh's lead they were ordered to fight and not retread this turned out to be a very easy victory for the American forces. They captured many British and general Tecumseh was killed in action.

    The Hartford Convention

    The Hartford Convention was a series of meetings in 1814-15 in which delegates from all over(Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, and New Hampshire) came together to protest the War of 1812.
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    The Treat of Ghent was the treaty that had been made to end the War of 1812 and was signed in December and was to take place in February of the proceeding year. This had also made both countries agree to help end the slave trade and also made the British give up any land they had captured.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    The British had thought that the Americans were growing tired from the war and that they were nearing compromise. They decided to push into New Orleans and when doing so they were attacked by Andrew Jackson and his troops. Even though the American forces were outnumbered by more than 2,500 troops they pulled through with the victory and this was the final battle of the War of 1812.
