    Louis Calls the estates general
    -King Louis calls for the estates general meeting, which hadnt happened since 1614
    -Louis called the meeting in hopes of finding ideas of how to solve the current governments money issues
    -had to decide whether to vote by estate-1st and 2nd estates have the advantage, or voting together, - so the third estate has the advantage.
    -caused the National assembly- and the tennis court oath
  • Tennis court oath

    Tennis court oath
    -oath was a pledge sighned by 576 of the 577 people in the third estate
    -they were locked out of their meeting room shortly after beggining to call themselves the "national assembly"
    -they moved into a nearby tennis court and pledged to stay there until their needs, and wishes were met
    -first time that the French formally stood up to king Louis XVI
    -Seen as a commitment to anarchy

    -rebels attacked the prison
    -went to free the people that were locked up
    -mainly just went to get ammo and weapons
    -killed a gaurd and put his head on a stick and paraded town with it

    -The people of France were beginning to believe that neglect and ignorance were the main causes of public turmoil, and unjust ruling

    1-men are born and remain free and equal in rights
    2-The aim of political associations is to preserve the natural rights of man
    3-Law can only prohibit behavior that is hurting society
    4-All people are innocent until proven guilty
    5-Nobody can be arrested or punished if not prescribed by law

    -Women were rioting over the price of bread
    -market women grew into a mob of thoussands of people
    -they attacked the palace where the king and queen were until they forced them to come with them to paris
    -made the king start listening to his people and their demands of reform
    -ended the kings independance
