  • A New Hope

    In November 9, 1953, France lets Cambodia gain it's indepedence. Instead of having a president, they have a kingdom ruled by the King Sihanouk.

  • Goodbye Old Friend

    On May 3, 1965, King Sihanouk decides to break the raltion that the U.S. and Cambodia had. Sine the break off, the king let North Vietnamese set up bases in Cambodia. The King allowed, because North Vietnamese wants to get rid of the U.S. backed goverment that is in South Vietnamese.
  • The Change

    Sihanouk is overthrown by the prime minister: Lon Nol. After the attacks by North Vietnamese in Cambodia, Lon sends an army to take them down, but their army is taken down.
  • Overuled

    Lon Nol is overthrown by Pol Pot occupy Phnom Penh. Since this change Cambodia changes it's name to Kampuchea. Also Sihanouk becomes the head state for a little bit.
  • To Many To Count!

    During this year, Pol Pot made Cambodia suffer so much, that about 1.5 million Cambodians died from starvation. He took about 20,000 prisoners. He did all this, because he wanted to have a perfect society. In the end his power was put to an end by the Vietnamese.
  • Bye Bye

    In 1976, Cambodia gets a new prime minster named, Pol Pot. Sihanouk resigns and Khieu Samphan is assigned to be the new head of state. Cambodia name changes to Democrat Kampuchea.
  • Squeeze Through

    During this date, Cambodians were getting killed by Pol Pot's forces, and they struggled to stay alive. Meanwhile, United Forces, Vietnamese team up to rid Pol Pot of his power. They fought their way in and saved Cambodia from Pol Pot.
  • The Forced

    Pol Pot is replaced by Hun Sen as the new prime minister. Thousnads of people in Cambodia are forced to leave their country, because their country was plagued by guerrilla warefare.
  • Peace????

    After all that happened with pol Pot, Cambodia decided that it was time to make a peace treaty. The peace treaty was signed by all the Cambodia parties. They get their new leader with the help of United Nations, but the Khmer Rogue boycot all of the polls.
  • Downgrade

    In 1993 Hun Sen becomes duputy prime minister. The new prime minister is Prince Norodam, and the two are both part of the three party coalition.
  • The Time Has Come

    The elections are held to find the new leader on May 23, 1993, with the help of the U.N. One of the king's sons wins, but Cambodia wants an equal share of power. Even with the new hope of becoming a better country, the Rogue soldiers keep fighting.
  • Death

    Pol Pot had many hideout, but one of them was in a jungle. People found hin dead in his jungle hideout on April. People say that he died from heart failure.
  • Nice Try

    Prince Ranariddh goes to court after many people accuse him of smuggling guns. He goes to court, but is found guilty. Later though, the king pardons him, and lets hims go.
  • New View

    Shianouk's son becomes the new king of Cambodia. His son was a former dancer, and was a representative for the UNESCO.

    Thaksin was taken over by Thailand.Hun Sen made Thaksin the leader in Thailand. The Thais didn't like new changes in the country, so they overthrew Thaksin with the military.
  • For your Ears Only!!!!

    One November 20, 2007 the press heard where Khmer Rogue was being held and went straight away to find out what happened. Unfortunately the prison didn't tell anyone anything until November 20, 2007.
  • Small fights Happen

    On October 14, 2008 Cambodia and Thailand started firing at each other. In total 7 soldiers were wounded, and 3 died. Cambodia said they captured some Thai soldiers, but Thailand says they didn't
  • Bigger is Better!

    On April 7, 2011 Thailand decided to use cluster munitions. Cluster munitions are bombs with multiple explosions in them, like mines.
  • Small things can be powerful too

    As Cambodia and Thailand kept on fighting, they started using more powerful weapons. The fighting stopped for awhile when about 8 Thai soldiers died. The fighting came back with even more powerful weapons. Both sides started using missiles to shoot down each other.
  • Accidents happen

    In 2011, two Thai citizens crossed the disputed border to Cambodia. When Cambodia caught the, they charged them for spying. As a result the opposing side started shooting into Cambodia, so Cambodia calls the UN peacekeepers for help.
  • The End?

    For many years Thailand and Cambodia had had a disputed border, but now the countries are ordering their troops to leave the area that has the Preah Vihear temple next to it, and though it may not be that big to people, they hope this could stop the fighting between them.
  • One Down, Two To Go

    In March on 2013, Leng Sary was in court for genocide, but before he could have his trial, he died. He wasn't the only one to be in court one though, because the other two that were acused too were Khieu Samphan, and Nuon Chea.
  • Agree With Us!!!!!!

    Since the 2013 elections at Cambodia, there have been riot groups about it. Since there have been protests, Cambodia sent the riot police to stop the protesting in Phnom Penh.
  • For Life!!!!

    The UN court in Cabodia sends two Khmer Rouge leaders for life in prison. They went to prison, because they terrorized the country back in the 1970's. The first one was Khieu Samphan and the other one was Nuon Chea.
