    Scout and Jem found gifts.
    The kids start finding random presents in the knot hole of a tree and they take them, not knowing at first that they are for them. But then they start to figure out that Boo Radley is giving them the presents in the tree. Then Nathan Radley (Boo's father) fills in the knot hole, ruining the kids fun.
  • Scout doesn't like her teacher.

    Scout doesn't like her teacher.
    On the first day of school Scout's teacher tells her that she does not read correctly and that she is going to have to fix the damage. But she also adds that Scout father should not teach her how to read anymore because it is wrong, but Scout insists that she learned to read all by herself. Of course her teacher doesn't believe her, which begins Scout's dislike of school.
  • Miss Maudies house burnt down.

    When Miss Maudies house burnt down Jem and Scout had to stand outside and wait for the fire to burn out. It was really cold outside, and Scout especially was freezing. But when they come inside Scout suddenly realizes that she has a blanket around her and they come to an agreement that Boo Radley must have put it there.

    When Atticus shot the sick dog he revealed to Scout and Jem that he had had the deadest shot in Maycomb County. They never knew this before and they thought that it was great news, but apparently Atticus didn't think that it meant that much.
  • Calpurnia takes Jem and Scout to her church.

    Because of a few unfortunate events Calpurnia has to take Jem and Scout to her church. While they are there they learn that not very many blacks can read, so they have to sing in a follow-the-leader type of way.
  • Jem cut up all of Mrs. Dubose's flowers.

    Jem cut up all of Mrs. Dubose's flowers.
    Jem just gets so sick of Mrs. Dubose yelling at him all the time and saying bad things about Atticus that his strings finally snap and he goes absolutely crazy. At least that's what Scout thinks when he attacks Mrs. Dubose's flowers and chops them right down. But he gets what he has coming for him when he has to read to her every day in the summer.

    Over a month after Jem and Scout are done reading to Mrs. Dubose they hear that she has died and that she has been sick for a long time. They also find out that she was an addict and that she had decided she was going to quit before she died. And she did, but it made her death a lot harder because she had fits a lot.

    Atticus is at the jail with Tom when the kids get curious and come to see him. But on their way a mob forms and starts talking to Atticus. But the kids come out of their hiding spot and Scout stops the mob by reminding them that Atticus is a father too. Not just a lawyer defending a black man.

    Tom Robinson is a very good man with a soft heart, so when he saw Mayella Ewell in need of help he was happy to give her a hand (literally only one hand). But when Mayella kisses him and Bob Ewell sees it, Mayella has to cover it up so she says that Tom raped her, even though there is absolutely no evidence.
  • Dill had a drink of Mr. Raymond's mysterious liquid.

    Dill had a drink of Mr. Raymond's mysterious liquid.
    Mr. Raymond is a strange white man who got married to a black woman. He walks around as if he is drunk, carrying a bottle of Coca-Cola in a brown paper bag wherever he goes. Everybody thinks he is drinking beer because of the way he acts, but Scout and Dill finds out that he only does it so that people will think that he can't help the way he lives; because he's addicted to beer.
  • Tom Robinson was found guilty.

    After hearing everything that everybody related to the trial had to say about it, the jury found Tom Robinson guilty. Everybody knew deep down in their hearts that Tom was innocent, but in this case it was white man's word against black man's words, and with no evidence the jury had to go with the race more favored; white.

    Even though Atticus tells Tom not to do anything crazy because they are going to try and get an appeal, Tom starts getting antsy and decides to take a run for it. After the officals warn him, they start shooting at him, hitting him a total of 17 times.
  • Bob Ewell spit in Atticus's face

    After Tom has been shot Atticus goes to see Tom's wife. While he is trying to comfort her Bob Ewell shows up, saying he has to speak to Atticus. When Atticus comes out Bob spits in his face, and the two of them stand there for a little while. Finally Atticus pulls out a handkerchief and wipes off the spit and walks into his car and drives away.
  • Atticus gets a bunch of food at his door step.

    Even though Atticus loses Tom's case, a whole lot of black people are thankful that he even tried to defend their friend and neighbor. So they bring in a whole lot of food to show their gratitude and thanks for all that he has done for the black community.
  • The kids are attacked.

    As Scout and Jem were walking home from a Halloween pagaent, they were attacked by Bob Ewell. He had every intention of killing them to get revenge on Atticus, but Boo Radley showed up and killed Bob, saving the kids.
  • Scout walks Boo home.

    Scout walks Boo home.
    After Boo saves Scout and Jem's lives, Boo asks Scout if she can take him home. She says yes, and after he walks into his house she stands on his porch and thinks of times in the past when they played outside and found gifts in the knot hole of the tree.
