    Meeting Dill
    When Jem and Scout first met Miss Rachel, their next-door neighbor's nephew, named Dill, it started a long lasting friendship between the three. When Dill learns the story of the Radely house, it sparks an interst in him that ends in the three playing different games surrounding the topic of the Radley House. These games will eventually get them in some trouble, but of course Dill talks their way out of it. Dill is a troublemaker with good persuasion skills.

    Visiting Boo Radley
    The three sneak over to the Radley house in the middle of the night and plan to peek in through a loose shutter. Jem is on the porch and sees a shadow who fires a gun as they all escape. Jem gets stuck in the fence and has to take his pants off to get free. They try to casually join everyone who has gathered in front of the Radley house and Dill tells Atticus Jem doesn't have pants because he lost them playing strip poker. Later, Jem goes back and retrieves them. They are stiched up and folded.
  • Scouts first day of school

    Scouts first day of school
    During Scout's first day of school. her teacher does not develop a liking to her. Scout knows how to read and Miss Caroline does not like that. Scout also explains to her teacher about the Cunninghams and Miss Caroline just does not understand this town. Miss Caroline ends up not being very nice to Scout and makes her first day miserable, causing Scout to try to convince her father to let her never go back again.

    Jem and Scout find treasures
    One day after school, while passing the big tree outside the Radley house, Scout finds chewing gum. Jem later finds out and over the course of a few weeks, they find more and more treasures, such as soap carvings of a boy and a girl, a spelling medal, a pocket watch, a chain, and a knife. The next day, they find Nathan Radley filling the hole with cement, claiming that it is dying. They have an idea who was giving them the presents, and that is Boo Radley.
  • Tom Robinson's Case begins

    Tom Robinson's  Case begins
    Atticus gets asked to be Tom Robinson's lawyer, a black man who was accused of raping Mayella Ewell, a white woman. The word gets around and a boy in Scout's class calls Atticus a ni---r lover which makes Scout mad and she almost fights him. Later, Atticus explains to Scout that she cannot let the things others say get to her.
  • Finch's Landing

    Finch's Landing
    Scout's cousin, Francis, tells her that Atticus is a ni---r lover and this time she snaps and beats him up. The blame gets put on Scout and Atticus sees this as a good reason to leave early. Atticus' brother, Jack, has been staying with them and Scout tells him what Francis said, but she makes him promise not to tell Atticus, and he promises not to.
  • Aunt Alexandra moves in

    Aunt Alexandra moves in
    One day when Scout, Jem, and Calpurnia get home from visiting Calpurnia's church, their aunt is sitting on the front porch waiting for them. She announces that she will be staying with them so they have a female role model in their life, because she does not think Calpurnia is enough. She stays with them until after the Tom Robinson trial is over and during this time tries to make Scout act more ladylike, which Scout does not like.
  • Tom Robinson's Trial

    Tom Robinson's Trial
    Scout, Jem, and Dill sneak into the balcony of the court house to watch the trial. Atticus proves to everyone that Mayella Ewell, the girl who was supposedly raped by Tom, is a liar and so is her father, Bob Ewell. The jury goes out to discuss the verdict, which lasts for hours, which is surprising and it ends up that the verdict says that Tom is guilty. Tom goes to jail and is shot and killed when he tries to escape.
  • Bob Ewell holds a grudge

    Bob Ewell holds a grudge
    Bob begins to threaten Atticus after he loses his job, which he thinks is Atticus' fault. Atticus is naive and doesn't believe Bob will really do anything. Bob leaves a hate note at the judge's house and stalks Helen Robinson, Tom's wife.
  • Halloween night

    Halloween night
    Scout is in the Halloween pagent as a ham. Jem accompanies her to the pagent and on their way back home, he hears someone following them. The two get attacked but it is too dark to see who it is. Someone comes and helps them, but Jem already has a broken arm and is unconsious. Scout is still in her costume, which protects her. Scout later meets and finds out that it was Boo Radley who helped them, and stabbed Bob, the one who attacked them. Jem ends up being okay.
