    First day of school
    Scout and Jem are at their first day of school. Their new teacher, Miss Caroline, is young and new. Scout informs her of the Cunninghams, and gets in trouble for it, so after school, Scout beats up little Cunningham, before breaken up by Jem. Cunningham is then invited for dinner at the Finches, for he never gets food in his lifetime on a daily basis. This scene begins the developement of the two Finches.
  • Burris Ewell

    Burris Ewell
    This scene shows the first encounter of many towards the Ewell family, giving off how the family is to people. Burris's angerment towards Miss Caroline shows the plot of the story's future events involving the same name.
  • Tire Rolling

    Tire Rolling
    Scout, Jem and Dill had decided to play the tire rolling game. With Jem still heated from Scouts remark of his "hot steam' theory, and Scout wanting to go first, he pushed her with all of his force. Scout ended up hurt, and clear in the Radley's yard, where she had later allowed the reader to know she had heard a laugh coming from inside the Radley home. This scene will add to the plot of the story and the three kids' concernment towards Boo Radley, beginning the next sequence to the story.
  • The Crack of a Gun

    The Crack of a Gun
    Jem and the other two had gone to the Radley place during night time to give Boo a letter/note asking him to come out. During this duration of time, they had seen a shadow of a man and ran off, but during this, a shotgun had been fired. This alerted the entire neighbourhood including Atticus, which none had figured out the three children were the source of the corruption. This scene upheld the anticipation of the three and their concern of the truth behind Boo, and losing Jem's overalls.
  • Folded Overalls

    Folded Overalls
    Jem had gone back in the morning to retrieve his overalls he had lost on the fence post by the Radley's/ upon retrieving them, later he confessed to Scout of his reason to being disturbed. Jem had found his overalls neatly folded, and sowed where he had had them caught on the fence. He explained how he had found them as if "they were expectin me to come and get them!"
  • "The Tree is Dyin"

    "The Tree is Dyin"
    Scout and Jem had proceeded to pass the whereabouts of the oak tree, where the two had found the two dolls, which had been admired as of looking like the two Finches. later in the day they find that the knot hole had been filled with cement. Jem finds Nathan Radley and asks why, response being "The tree's dying." Jem and Scout still wonder who had been doing these things, and will continue to discover the truth behind Boo Radley.
  • Do It For Atticus

    Do It For Atticus
    Cecil Jacobs called Scout's father a nigger lover. Scout renders to Atticus and finds out that he's defending Tom Robinson, a negro that was accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Atticus appoints to Scout that she will not understand the whole meaning of it for a while until she's grown up. He asserts Scout to avoid fighting anyone that brings up the despising remarks, and Scout keeps to it, being "the first time I ever walked away from a fight." Scout's loyalty to Atticus shows her concern for him.
  • Deadest Shot In Maycomb

    Deadest Shot In Maycomb
    Tim Johnson was the pet of Maycomb. But in February Jem had found him down the road actin like a mad dog, which was the disease that people back then were so afraid of. Atticus had returned to the neighbourhood with Sherrif Heck Tate and a rifle, where Atticus had been made to shoot the dog himself, revealing to the children that their father was Maycomb's "one-shot Finch". This brings Jem to knowing that he doesn't care if Atticus can't do anything, and that "he's a gentleman, just like me!"
  • He Just Went Mad

    He Just Went Mad
    Jem lost his head to Mrs. Dubose due to her remarks on Atticus. He proceeds to destroy all of her camellias, and is punished by Atticus, by reading to Mrs. Dubose for the next month. As Jem goes, he finds that she has been on Morphine the whole time, and recieves a Camellia from her as a gft after her death. But Jem still doesn't realise the reality of the situation, until he goes about the next couple of days, that he she was only dillusioned.
  • So Could I

    So Could I
    Scout and Aunt Alexandra are informed by Atticus that Tom is dead, shot at sight during an excersise. As the two return to the other ladies, Scout finds that even though the circumstances have just gotten serious, Alexandra still acts like a polite lady, so Scout finds herself doing the same. This shows that Scout is finally realising that times are rough, but she still has to grow up, and face the troubles the world will give her with smiles and kindness, like the lady she is supposed to be.
