    Scout and Jem meet Dill
    Over the summer Scout and Jem meet Dill in Maycomb County. His name is really Charles Baker Harris but he likes to go by Dill. He lives with Miss Rachel in Maycomb but comes from Meridian, Mississippi. He spends the summer with Miss. Rachel and then heads back home before school starts in the fall.
    "Dill was from Meridian, Mississippi, was spending the summer with his aunt, Miss Rachel, and would be spending every summer in Maycomb from now on." (Page 7).

    Scout and Jem find items in the Radley tree
    Scout was thirty minutes home before Jem from school. As she was heading home she passed two live oak trees at the edge of the Radley's lot. She noticed tinfoil sticking out of a knot hole. She opened the tin foil and it had two pieces of gum in it.

    Scout, Dill, and Jem sneaks into the Radley's place. They want to deliver a note to Boo Radley. They get caught by Atticus during the act.

    Scout, Dill, and Jem want to see what Boo Radley looks like so they try to peak through the windows of the Radley's house. Eventually they saw a shadow and got scared so they made a run from the house. Trying to sneak out, Jem loses his pants. Later in the night Jem goes to retrieve his pants.

    The hole in the tree was filled
    Jem and Scout were going to leave a note in the tree hole to communicate with Boo Radley. In the morning, Jem ran to the tree and noticed Mr. Nathan filled the tree with cement. This upset Jem because it cut off the only form of communication between him and Boo.
  • Scout and Jem find out about the trial

    Scout and Jem go to church with Calpurnia since Atticus was called by State Legislature to travel to the state capital for two weeks. At the church Jem and Scout found out about Tom Robinson being accused of raping a white girl. They also find out Atticus is defending Tom Robinson.
  • Aunt Alexandra stays with the Finches'

    Aunt Alexandra stays with the Finches'
    Aunt Alexandra comes to stay with the Finches'. She wants to stay to give the Finch family a feminine influence.
  • Tom Robinson's trial begins

    Tom Robinson's trial begins
    Tom Robinson is being accused by Bob Ewell of raping his daughter Mayella Ewell. Scout, Jem, and Dill sneak in the trial and sit in the black people's balcony. Dill cries at the cross examination.
  • Tom Robinson is guilty

    The jury convicted Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella Ewell.
  • Tom Robinson's death

    Tom Robinson was put in jail. As he was trying to escape the jail he was shot and killed.
