  • Chapter One

    Chapter One
    Scout, a 6-yr-old girl is from Macomb, Alabama. She lives with her father, Atticus, her brother, Jem, and their house servant, Calpurnia, who is more of a mother than a servant to Scout. Scout and her brother, Jem, befriend a boy named Dill from Meridian, who spends his summers in Macomb. Their mission is to get their mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley, to come outside. Jem, on a dare, slaps the side of the house. The shutters flicker.
  • Chapter 2

    Chapter 2
    Scout goes off to school where she has a hard day:
    She gets in trouble for knowing how to read. Then she gets in trouble for embarrassing explaining to Miss Caroline that the Cunninghams have no money and to stop "shamin him".
    Walter is from the country and has no lunch. It goes against his family beliefs to accept handouts, and he refuses the quarter his teacher, Miss Caroline, offers him for lunch.
  • Chapter 3

    Angry for getting her in trouble, Scout beats up Walter in the schoolyard. Jem breaks it up and invites Walter home for lunch. Walter, being from a poor family, asks for syrup to pour on his food. Scout, being from a family with more money, is shocked by this. She embarrasses Walter at the table. Attiucs and Calpurnia scold her harshly and send her to the kitchen. After lunch, they go back to school. Another countryboy, Burris Ewell, acts up and calls the teacher a "snot nose slut"
  • Chapter 4 and 5

    Chapter 4 and 5
    Toward the tale end of school, Scout and Jem begin to find things left in the knothole of an oaktree in front of the Radley place, first some gum and then two Indian Head pennies. Scout rolls in a tire into the Radley yard by accident and hears laughter inside. Jem, Scout and Dill begin playing a game reenacting the life of Boo Radley. Atticus and Miss Maudie say it is not a nice game; they both know the real story of Boo Radley. The kids try to play it secretly, but they get caught.

    They visited the knothole. Got a bunch a gifts. Mr. Radley put cement in the knothole. Jem cried when he found out.
  • Chapter 6

    Chapter 6
    Scout, Dill and Jem go to the Radley place. They want to peek in the window to see Boo. They see a shadow, they run for it, but Jem got his pants stuck and torn on the fence. He left them behind. He tells Atticus he was palying strip poker with Dill. Jem goes back for his pants at 2am. Scout is afraid he'll got shot, but he gets back alright.
