    The tree that keeps giving
    The first most important event that happens in To Kill a Mockingbird is when they keep finding gifts in Boo Radley's tree. There is a hole in this mysterious tree and one day while walking by they see some things in it. Some of these things consist of two homemade dolls, a soap carved boy and two indian head coins.
  • The Fire

    The Fire
    One night Scout and Jem find out that their neighbor's house is on fire. They go outside, along with many other people in the town. It is also kind of chilly and suddenly Scout feels a blanket being put around her. Here it is Boo and this is one of their interactions with him that tell them that he is really nice. They also find out that Boo was the one putting the gifts in the tree.
  • Atticus did what!?

    Atticus did what!?
    Jem and Scout discover a dog acting strangely so they go running in to tell Cal. When she sees the dog she recognizes that it has rabies and they call the sherrif as well as Atticus. They definitely need to shoot this dog so that it doesn't hurt anyone so the sherrif appoints Atticus to shoot it. Here the children learn that their father was the best shot in town.
  • Off to Church

    Off to Church
    One day Scout and Jem become interested in going to Cal's church. She agrees to take them and makes sure they are presentable. They find it kind of strange that they have to get all dressed up to go to her church because they've never had to or their regular church. When they get there they are surrounded by African Americans and they get to really see how they act. They also notice that Cal talks and acts differently here than at home. Over all, it's an eye-opening experience for Scout and Jem.

    Mrs. Dubose is an older lady that lives near the Finch's and Scout and Jem walk by her house often. Almost every time they walk by she is sitting on her porch and yells something at them, usually in a grumpy way. One day Jem loses it because of something she did say. Since he is so angry he goes and tears up all her flowers. He then has to help fix her garden as well as read to her everyday after school. Later we find out that she is very ill and she dies soon after the reading segments are over
  • The Angry Mob

    The Angry Mob
    Since Atticus is a lawyer, he is asked to defend Tom Robinson, an African American. He doesn't really have a choice in the matter but always tells his children that it was his choice. The townspeople are not very happy that he is defending a negro so a group of men go over to the jail where Tom and Atticus are. If it weren't for Scout, it could've gotten ugly that night at the jail. Scout talked to Mr. Cunnigham and it showed him the fatherly side of Atticus. They backed down and left the scene.
  • Tom Robinson Trial

    Tom Robinson Trial
    Tom Robinson is convicted of raping Bob Ewells daughter, Mayella. It is the day of the trial and after much questioning it is almost obvious that Tom is innocent. After waiting several hours on the jury to come to a decision they come out and announce that Tom is guilty. It's not much of a suprise, considering that he is an African American. Atticus tells Tom that they will ask for an appeal and that they have a pretty good chance of winning.
  • Who's dead?

    Who's dead?
    Atticus receives word that Tom Robinson is dead. When he was taken to the place where he would be staying he panicked and started running. The cop that was there told him to stop but he just kept on running. He was shot 17 times because he wasn't stopping. Atticus is slightly upset because he thinks they would've had a good chance and he could've lived a better llfe. He then has to break the news to his wife and family.
  • The Attack

    The Attack
    On the way home from the Holloween play at school, Jem hears something behind him. Scout can't really tell because she's in her ham costume. Suddenly Scout hears a lot of hustling and shes getting pulled in different directions. Then things get quiet. She's pretty sure Jem is hurt so she gets out of her costume and sees someone carrying Jem home. She finds out that Bob Ewell was the one who attacked them and also discovers that Boo was the one who saved her and Jem by killing Bob.
  • The End

    The End
    Boo is at the Finch's house after he brings home Jem from the attack. Scout takes him over to Jem to let him "pet" Jem. This is really a cute moment because now Scout can defiinitely put all the nasty rumors about him out of her head. She sees that Boo is a sweet, caring guy that wouldn't try to hurt anyone. Atticus is also grateful for him because he saved his children's lives. He shakes his hand and says, "Thank you for my children." Scout walks Boo home and never sees him again.
