  • Washingtons Proclamation of Neutrality

    Washingtons Proclamation of Neutrality
    Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality was a formal announcement in which it stated that America was not going to go into another war with foreign state(s). It was to also neutralize the conflicts that the United States were facing with Great Britain and France. Without the Proclamation the United States would not be able to withstand the war of 1812, this is because of the American revolution they just faced.
  • Jays Treaty

    Jays Treaty
    Jays treaty was an agreement which was to relive some hostility between the U.S and Great Britain. The British were starting to seize ships from the French ports. In result, John jay who was a founding farmer was sent out by Washington, to London to arrange a treaty with them. In return Jay was able to remove some British outposts in the North West. Democratic Republicans did not like Jays act but Hamilton (as well as others) believed it prevented a war between the two nations.

    Washingtons farewell address was an address to his “Friends and Citizens” due to him finishing his second term of presidency. It was also to warn his people about geographical intolerance, political antagonism and foreign powers. Washingtons farewell address is significant in the war of 1812 because he essentially tells his people to back down, set aside their likes or dislikes of foreign states.

    The Chesapeake- Leopard affair was an attack between Great Britain and the U.S. This Great Britain attack was a revenge act towards the U.S. because of all the cargo America was in-essence showing off, Great Britain also wanted cargo from the naval army. This sparked tension between the United States and Great Britain once again, leading to the war of 1812.

    The Embargo act was where ports in the U.S. were being closed off, this was Thomas Jefferson’s nonviolent response to Great Britain’s and France attacking the U.S merchant ships. The industry went down hill, everyone in the U.S were affected by this act. Great Britain and France on the other hand were sort of pleased because of the decrease in competition between the nations. It is significant to the war of 1812 because it increased the conflict between America and Great Britain.

    Tecumseh was a Shawnee Native American, he wanted to organize his own government to stop the white from settling in the NorthWest territory. Tecumseh believed that an Indian federation could slow down the whites taking their land and also get their freedom and culture back. Tecumseh also beloved that if conflicts between the different tribes be set aside, the Mississippi valley and the Great Lakes could be combined to resist Americas expansion. His plan did not work, he then allied with Britain.

    Impressment of sailors was an act were Great Britain’s send their Royal Navy out to kidnap American sailors. Great Britain were recruiting American sailors by force into the Great Britain navy/army. This is significant to the war of 1812 because it is one of the reasons why the war happened. America did not like Great Britain kidnapping their sailors.

    During the war Tecumseh and his tribe attacked forts and white settlers in America. Tecumseh and his tribe then allied (joined) the British forces, where him and his tribe would help Great Britain win the war of 1812.

    War hawks were someone or people in politics who wanted war. The War hawks wanted war because of many reasons. One of the reasons were; Great Britain attacking American ships. War hawks are significance to the war of 1812 because they forced America to go into war with Great Britain. They also forced America to invade British Canadas territory.

    Great Britain wanted more control, they wanted to control the worlds ocean, America however did not like that. Great Britain intruded the American ships and kidnapped sailors. In response to this President James Madison declared war against Great Britain.

    The Hartford Convention was a secret three-week debate between the states and the federal government. This convention was made to potentially remove the three-fifths agreement and replace it with the two-thirds agreement. This is significant because it told the Federal government to protect New England as well as help their trade economy.

    The Treaty of Ghent was a document which was the United States and Great Britain signed. This was a peace treaty which ended the war of 1812 between the two nations. Because of the peace treaty, Great Britain and America would work together to end slavery, it also helped America gain foreign powers.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans were fought between America and Great Britain in regards of who actually won the war of 1812 (Though Great British won). This act defeated Great Britain and gave a win to the United States. This battle stopped the British from gaining control over the American ports.
