The enlightenment was when there were a bunch of new scientific, political, and philosophical discoveries. These new ideas were come up by enlightenment thinkers. One of them was John Locke who believed that talking and communicating with the people was important. This is important because it was the start of a new era.

It was when the French king Louis XIV raised the taxes on the people. He did this because he was running low on money. The French people had enough of this so they raided an abandoned prison, the bastille, and got weapons getting ready to fight. After the revolution Louis XIV was forced to make a new form of government where there was no King. The government that was formed was the “Legislative Assembly”

This was when the 3 estates, Nobles, Commoners, and religious leaders, had a meeting to decide whether there should be more taxes and if the noble. Each house had one vote so the nobles, and religious leaders voted yes and the commoners no. Since the vote was 2-1 there would be more taxes and the commoners would be the one paying them.

On June 17th the third estate made a National assembly since they figured they would be outvoted. 3 days later when they went to go to one of the meetings they found out they were locked out. They then went to the nearest indoor court and vowed to not leave until they came up with a new constitution for France.

There was a rumor among the commoners that the nobles had hired people to protect the new harvest from them. The peasants didn’t like this and so they raided an old prison, the Bastille, and took the weapons from there. They didn’t injure anyone too badly; they just wanted to destroy some records the nobles had on them.

This is a book that had laws and rules that led to the French revolution. This was made by the men who created the Tennis Court Oath. These were the laws to man and citizens. One of them out of the 17 different ones was that when men were born that automatically had freedom and rights.

It was a slave rebellion. This rebellion not only ended slavery in the western hemisphere but they also stopped the control the French had over their colony. It wasn’t one big attack though, it was multiple. The first to attack was a former slave, Toussaint l’Overture. L'Ouverture didn’t stop there though. He conquered what is now known as the Dominican Republic. After L’Ouverture was killed and his general and his troops defeated the french, Haiti was the first black republic in the world.

This event was when many slaves, free black people, etc, made a plan to attack their masters. This plan took multiple days. It started at one plantation and they made their way to others attacking and taking over more while gaining new members. There were more than 100 plantations destroyed.

Mary Wollstonecraft made a Vindication of the Rights of Woman. This was one of the earliest projects for woman’s rights to equality written by a Woman. -
The National Assembly made France be a Republic and completely got rid of the monarchy. King Louis was no longer King or called King. After that day some wanted him to be executed immediately. He had a trial and it was decided he was to be executed. -
After King Louis had neglected financial problems he had inherited he called up the estates general. After the commoners went against the government and King Louis, him and Marie Antoinette escaped to Austria, although it didn’t take long to find them. They were soon imprisoned and the next January he was on death row. It didn’t take too long afterwards for him to take his last trip to the guillotine.

An official announcement from Toussaint came from Camp Turel. The camp was mostly occupied by revolting slaves and French soldiers. Toussaint basically said he wanted Liberty and Equality to reign in Saint-Domingue. -
The reign of terror was a period of the French Revolution. After the Civil war was spreading and France was surrounded, the revolutionary government decided to get rid of suspected Enemies. A load of executions happened in Paris that day. -
After people started hearing about the emancipation in Saint-Domingue, the National Convention was not happy. A couple of the original members of the society that were friends with Black people were either killed or left the country. After 3 delegates, 2 of which were people of color explained the situation to the National convention and the deputies voted to abolish slavery. -
Maximillion Robespierre was the one who mostly created the French Revolution, was caught and overthrown by the National Convention. Maximilian killed over 17,000 people who were against the Revolution. The day after he was arrested he and 21 other people were killed. -
The directory was set up by the Constitution in 1795. It was a bicameral legislature. There were two councils. The council of 500 and the council of ancients. There were also directors who were picked by the ancients. The directors chose who got to be who. They chose who would be the tax collectors, ambassadors, etc. The directory was corrupt and unfair as it targeted people who supported the revolution.

The hatred tension between Toussaint, a Haitian general, and Rigaud, a mulatto general, grew bigger every day. After Toussaint had been given 2 more towns Rigaud was furious and on June 16th he killed many people in Petit Goave with a sword. This civil war lasted for 5 more months until Toussaint finally won.

Napolean and 2 other people had helped plan the coup. The Coup overthrew the system of government under the Directory of France. This gave Napolean absolute power. It is believed this act is what ended the French revolution. -
After the national constitution of France was adopted a type of government called the Consulate. Later on, the coup of 18 Brumaire gave all power to Napolean Bonaparte in which some believed is what caused the revolution to end. Since Napoleon had all the power he decided to give himself powers like a dictator.

After the 7th anniversary of when slavery was abolished by the national assembly, Toussaint wanted to write a constitution for Saint- Domingue even though it was still a colony of Franc. After representatives were elected in May for the assembly, Toussaint signed it in July.

After Napoleon's Bonaparte's defeat, Jean- Jaques Dessalines proclaimed independence for Saint- Domingue and renamed it Haiti.

Started when there was a change in the imperial administration. Latin American colonies started making their own governments. The Spanish and Portugese attempted to get their authority back but when they tried that the colonies started working their way to independence.

After Napolean stayed in Spain, there was a bunch of revolts across Spanish America. A Mexican catholic priest launched the Mexican War of Independence. They wanted to end the Spanish rule in Mexico, redistribution of land, and racial equality. Eventually, the priest was caught and executed but many people passed on his intentions and continued.

Simon Bolivar went to Satniago de los Caballeros de Merida. He led the invasion of Venezuela. He called himself “The liberator” His army and he made what seemed like an impossible march to Columbia. -
While other Spanish countries were trying to gain independence from Spain, Peru stayed. The only reason Peru gained independence was because of outsiders. Jose de San Martin in Argentina wanted to gain control of upper Peru’s silver. He liberated Chile, Chile then took over a Peruvian port, and when Peru surrendered they gained independence. -
After New Granada gained independence, Gran Columbia was formed. Although Gran Columbia wasn’t around for long it only lasted from 1819 to 1830.
