  • Louisiana purchase

    In this year the louisiana purchase occured, Thomas Jefferson bought the land associated with this purchase for 15,000,000 US dollars from France. This was the first purchase of the Westward expansion throughout the 1800s.
  • Florida acquisition

    Spain ceded florida to the United States throug the Adams Onis Treaty of 1819. This was the second purchase in westward expansion.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Congress passed a law which asked Native Americans to comply with leaving their land or be forced to. They were forced to move to the west of the mississippi.
  • Oregon Treaty

    THis treaty moved a border between the us and canada at the 49th parallel, which granted us Oregon
  • The California Gold Rush

    A man in Sacramento Valley discovered gold in river. This started the Gold Rush. This period was filled with sickness greed and lunacy. Gold drove some to madness and many left their homes for a chance to find gold.
  • Mexican Cession

    In this year Mexico ceded Texas to us through the treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo which was on of the largest acquisitions in the entire Westward expansion
