    Beginnings of Sumerian Civilization

    Both of these events occurred nearly simultaneously. The Sumerian Civilization was composed of several waring cities in southern Mesopotamia or modern day Iraq. It also gave rise to the world's first written texts.

    Beginnings of Egyptian Civilization

    In Africa, along the Nile River, the civilization of Egypt rose. Egyptian civilization was much more unified than those of Sumer.
  • Period: 3000 BCE to 1800 BCE

    Norte Chico

    Norte Chico was very different from the other two civilizations at that time. Some key features were:
    -A rich fishing industry
    -A lack of pottery/art
    -Few defensive walls, indicating very little warfare
    Norte Chico was the pattern used by many later civilizations in the area.
    It is also around this time that the Quipu, an early form of writing, was used.

    Indus Valley Ciivilization

    Located in the Indus and Saraswati river valleys of Pakistan.
    Features:
    -Elaborately planned cities
    -Standardization in weights, measures, and architecture
    -Literacy
    -Various environmental impacts
  • Period: 2663 BCE to 2195 BCE

    Egypt's Old Kingdom

    Responsible for the constructions of the pyramids. Affirmed the possibility of eternal life and also expanded access to it.

    Central Asian/ Oxus Civilization

    This civilization is considered to be the center of a "Eurasian-wide system of intellectual and commercial exchange" due to the various goods found in their location. They also possessed extremely distinct architecture and culture which continues to show up even today in modern Iran and India.

    Considered the mother of civilizations. They are famous for the first written language and creating the first written language.

    In this dynasty, emperors ruled by the Mandate of Heaven but could be removed for bad behavior.

    The Nubian kingdom, Kush, invaded and ruled Egypt for 100 years. They were able to do this because of their rich iron working industry.
