  • President Madison Takes Office

    President Madison took office in 1809. Americans were angry and Britain for arming Native Americans. Henery Clay of Kentucky and C.Calhoun of South Carolina became leaders in the house of representives. President Madison was also known as the "Father of the Constitution". They also surpervised the Louisiana purchase.
  • War Hawks Take Power

    The War Hawks are people who favor war. Also War Hawks ore the opposite of War Doves. Henery Clay was the best War Hawk. The term "War Hawk" was created by John Randolph.Older members President Madison and tresury Albert Gallctin tried defending the war.
  • Relations with Great Britain Worsen

    In the spring, the British told the Untited States they would continue impressing sailors. Relatins with Britain Worsened steadily in the early months of 1812. Native Americans in the Northwest began new attacks on frointier settlements. They continued to disagree over the trade. Britain and france was set up to expire in 1810
  • America is not Ready for War

    Jeffersons spending cuts weakend the American Military. The Navy had only 16 warships ready . The army was small. The British set up the blockade. The blockade made it so nothing could in or out.
  • Congress Declares war on Britain

    Britain was not willing to meet American demands to avoid war. It was soon apparent that thwe United States were not prepared for war. The navy only had 16 war ships ready for action along with a small army of 7,000 men. British were suppling guns. They were also encouraging Indians to attack America.
  • Invasion of Canada

    War hwks demanded an invasion. American troopd were led by general Wiliam Hull. Hull retreated. British commander was General Issac Brock. Brick's amry made Hulls surrender.
  • USS Constitution Scores a Victory

    Major sea battle was fought. USS Costitution defeated the british warships. The Constitution was named after "Old Ironsides". Americans thought as if the ship were made of iron.
  • Battle of Lake Erie

    Nine vessels of the U.S navy defeated & capured 6 vesseks fro the British. British seised control of lake Erie. British vessels were controlled by provincal Marine. Te USS adams wasnt ready for war. British took the adams when Detroit surrendered.
  • Battle of Thames

    Also known as Battle of Moravantown. British wanted to maintain command of Lake Erie. Commander and leaders for British were Henery Pricter and Tecumsch. Commander for the U.S. was William Henery Harrison. The British lost about 632 soldiers.
  • Horseshoe Bend

    Tecumseh retreated from Detroit into Canada. The Americans won a decisive victory at the Battle of Thames. Jackson also won a crushing victory at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. For the time being, the fight ended. Once again Natine Americans had to give up thier land to white.
  • Washington D.C. Attacked and Burned

    British planned on attacking Washinton D.C. British force marched into the city.Britishset fireto the government buildings. The presidents wifeleft with all the important papers. Americans were suprised that their armys couldnt defend Washington.

    Scott Key wrote a poem and named it "Star Spangled Banner. it told a story about his nights watch. The poem then turned into a song.. Congress made it into the national anthem. It was written on the back of and envelope.
  • Hartford Convention

    Federalists met in Hrtford Conneticut. While the delegates debated , news of the peace Treaty arrived. The war over the Hartfod Convention ended quickly. Pride and achievement brought the confidence of Americans to a new height. Once and for all the United States secured its independence from Britian
  • Treaty of Ghent

    On Christmas eve 1814, the two sides signed the Treaty which ended the war. The treaty then returned thing back to the way they were before. The news of the treaty took several weeks to rewach the U.S. The American forces were under General Andrew Jackson than won a stunning victory. Also the two sides fought one more battle.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans was commanded by Andrew Jackson. Andrew defeated a British army. The British fleey was led by Alexander cochrane. 333 people from the U.S were killed
