    The Americans where angry at Bririan for armimg Native Americans in the NothWest. President Madison didn't want war. He thought he should stand up the the British and Native Americans. The Americans wanted war with Britian. President Madision also helped write the constution to pass the Bill of Rights.

Fearing he didn't have enough soliders.British commander General Issac Brock took advantage of Hull's confusion.     They defeated the British war ships, Guerriere in a fierce battle. It was a major sea battle. According to tridition, salors nicknamed the constitution Old Tronsides. to the americans it seemed as if the constitiotion was made up of iron. It was the beginning of the war.

    Americans set out to win control of Lake Erie. Oliver Hazard Perry had no fleet so he designed to bild his own ships. Perry took his flag down and rowed ober to another American ship. The Americans had won the battle. Captin Perry wrote a message on the back of an envelope "we have met the enemy and they are ours ."

    After loosing control of Lake Erie the British and their ally Tecumseh retreated from Detriot into Canada. The Americans won a devive victory at the Battle of Thames. Tecumseh a leader who died in fighting. Without Tecumseh leadership Indian conferderation soon fell apart.

    Britian and its allies defeated France. Andrew Jackson Ternssnce Officer took commend of American troops. Native Amercians has to give up land to whites. The leader of the Creeks walked alone into Jacksons camp to surronder. War with Europe over Britian could send more troops and ships against the United States.

    President Madision himself watched the battle. To his dismay the battle had hardened the British, quicklt scattered the untrained Americans. Dolley Madision waited for her husband to return. Soon British troops marched into the capitial, Dolley gathered things important to her than fled down south. She wasn't there to watch the British burn down the White House and other buildings.

    Fransic Scott Key a young American watched the battle. British ships bombarded the fort through out the night. At dawn Key still saw the American flah still flyin over the fort. The americans had beaten off the attack. On the back of the envelope he wrote a poem that he called "The Star Spangled Baner."

    Francis Scott Key who witinessed the battle wrote a poem about the bombardment. Late the Star Spangled Baner was set to music and adopted as the national anthem of the Untied States. They Key of Baltimoes defense was Fort McHenry. It told a story of them is war. He wrote it on the back of an envelope.

Britian and the United States agreed to restore prewar conditions.Looking back some Americans felt that the war of 1812 was a mistake. These issues had faded due to the end of the Neapolonic wars in Europe.

    Andrew Jackson became a national hero.The battle could have been avoided. More than 2,000 British fell under the deadly fire of American sharp shooters and cannons. Again and again British soliders marched toward the American trenches.
