    The British create the "Orders-in-Council" which prohibitied trade with France. The navy would enforce this.
  • The Embargo Act

    The Embargo Act
    President Thomas Jefferson created this Act, which closed all American Ports for Imports and Exports. This rapidly decreased America's economy and angered colonists.
  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    Battle of Tippecanoe
    A battle before the War, between the Americans and Native Americans. William Harrison defeats Tenskwatawa, or "the Prophet."
  • Jefferson Suggests War

    Jefferson Suggests War
    Because of British naval ships impressment and their alliance with Native Americans, Jefferson writes a letter to Congress imposing War against Great Britain.
  • War Officially Declared

    War Officially Declared
    The US Declaration of War is signed by President Jefferson, making the United States officialy at war against Great Britain.
  • Siege of Detroit

    The British seize Detroit, Michigan (including the fort). This is an easy win for the British, which excties them and General Hull's surrender was embarresing for Americans.
  • Battle of Lundy's Lane

    (AKA the Battle of Niagra Falls) Neither side won, both lost many soldiers. The British won strategically, but all in all it was a draw. The Battle of Lundy's Lane is considered the bloodiest battle of the War.
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent
    Britain and the US sign a peace treaty, officially ending the War of 1812. Included in this treaty was an official boarder between Canada and the US and the US returned back to the way that it was prior to the war.

    Battle of Baltimore

    This was the turning point of the War of 1812: British invaded Baltimore Maryland, trying to capture Fort McHenry. This battle inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star Spangled Banner. (American Victory)
  • Attack on New Orleans

    Attack on New Orleans
    British General Pakenham was not aware of the Treaty of Ghent, so he attacked New Orleans (General Andrew Jackson). This resulted in the most impressive American Victory of the War. (ironically after the war had ended).
